| Posted: | | | | Early in this election season, we made the decision to stand by our policy of allowing political discussions in the general forum. Some of the discussions have gotten out of hand recently and have strained our confidence in this decision. However, one man's vitriol is another's free speech, so we have let most stand.
Now that this election is over, we feel it is the right time to reign in these discussions. For the next week or so (as long as this thread is here as an announcement), we'll be watching this area more closely.
It is suggested that political discussions be avoided. If you do participate in a political discussion, keep it civil and aim for conflict-free discussion. | | | Invelos Software, Inc. Representative |

| Posted: | | | | Of course I will respect your decision and will not create any threads related to politics (not that I created any of the others anyway). Overall I do think that these discussions should be permitted because of free speech issues (perhaps as you say after a break of some kind). I recognize of course that these being Invelos's forums that you have no legal obligation to allow such discussions so I support your doing so. In this vein I would add the "Prop 8" thread to the list in the interest of completeness - I just posted there before I became aware of this announcement. I do think some people involved need to develop thicker skins and learn to take offense less readily. Also I think that the use of red arrows in these discussions has been too widespread and discourages open and honest discourse. I will admit I gave out a few that were probably not warranted in retrospect and I will remove some of those soon. I think this is a great program that has attracted a diverse and interesting group of users. Some of whom do great work working on the program contributions. That should remain the focus of the site. Thanks to Ken for letting us share our thoughts on this and more importantly for developing a great DVD collection program. Thanks Ken !! |

| Posted: | | | | One suggestion is to follow what some other forums do and introduce a P&R thread (politics & religion) that you have to choose to subscribe to.
That way those who do want to talk about it can do so and others can easily avoid.
It could still get out of hand and create more work for you & Gerri anyway, but it removes any issues from the normal forums. | | | IVS Registered: January 2, 2002 |

It could be like the Plugin development where you have to "apply" to have access. As you say, it can still get heated but at least it would be completely out of the way & sight of those who don't want to see it. |
