I recently noticed after making some adjustments to my collection that there are gaps in my collection numbers. One dvd doesnt even have a number. If I reassign them how does it prioritize? By date added? Alphabetically? I haven't attempted it yet because I don't want to F it up.

Any enlightenment would help. Thanx!

You can safely click on the "Collection --> Reassign collection numbers", because that only opens the options window. It doesn't yet start renumbering. In the options window you can select the renumbering to take place in the order of Purchase date, Release date or Title.

Yeah, I'm always a little afraid to use it (have to when I sell a DVD) because of multiple DVDs bought at the same date. It seems to keep the order in those cases. If you always backup before it's no big deal anyways.

DBQuery can be used to find gaps/duplicates in collection numbers if you don't want to re-assign.

Doesn't help you as you need to increase/decrease all other numbers.

I mean't if you just want to fill the gaps and/or remove duplicates.  I use collection numbers for trailers so I wouldn't dare use reassign in case it changed the existing numbers  .

But if you fill the gaps that way you'll end up with a nr 200 that's been bought 5 years after nr 201??

And I use collection numbers for trailer naming too but have written a small Java tool to reassign (or better, increase/decrease by X) the filenames.

I don't use collections numbers to tell me when I bought a dvd, I use purchase date for that

I use it to see how many dvds I have as I don't number any children (box set=1) and use it alphabetically.  Ziggy is always last!   Occasionally when looking for a movie, I'll go to a certain letter, say "s", and look through those for choices.

curious to know from others here.., How many of you have every one of your dvd purchases with the date purchased/price paid/ and where you bought it?
I know it is a big challenge to fill in ALL these fields, but the date purchased field, would be a godsend in knowing that your reassignment of collection numbers could never be lost as the dates would be a good indicator of what your first and 500th purchase date could relate to your library of titles.
When I first used/purchased  Intervocative ( Invelos today) back in April 2001, I had been using it for maybe a year or so until my purchase date later, but at that time my library was quite small, and I filled in the dates of purchase from another program I was using since 1997 , and had all prices locations and dates in the fields which I printed out and used for Intervocative's fields ..

so was wondering if this field is greatly used by all...  ??

I'm still behind quite a lot with entering these data, but I cherish the hope of being able to complete it one day...

A lot of my earlier purchases, before using the program, I don't have any documentation on purchase date or purchase place

even after I started using DVD Profiler I was just using it very basic for a while so am missing this info for probably 50 to 100 titles

I also used collection number to keep my shelf order, which was purchase date (with franchises all going on the shelf chronologically at the spot the earliest one was purchased , but this was before entering purchase date so for some titles collection number is the only way I have this order captured
