Before this starts out into a full-blown profile war: How do we handle titles for film series? Do we use the actual title of the movie or do we add the common denominator of the series?

I stumbled upon this in regard to the James Bond movies, the profiles of most of which have been changed to reflect 'James Bond 007' in the titles. Except for the German title of Dr No none had this appendage; since the Sort Title now works we don't really need it, or?

No, I've never come across a release of a Bond DVD anywhere that actually had 'James Bond' or '007' prefixed to the title on the cover. I'm sure some release somewhere has it, but in general yes, you're right, it doesn't belong there, only in the sort title.

What Nadja said... sort title only

That would be wrong. The episodes rule does not apply to James Bond movies, because those are not episodes in the sense of the rules. Each James Bond movie stands on its own.

Skip would say: If you want specialized titles, keep it to your own local profiles, but don't submit it to the database.

Thanks, I just went through the James Bond movies, which had been submitted with wrong titles and changed them back.

No problem with that, but why you try to replace the existing covers with bad quality scans?

Seems there have been a TON of dumb mistakes submitted regarding titles. I think I contributed 20 fixes last night alone.

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something

Since neither I nor DVDP knew which scans are current, it automatically uploaded them. As you can see from my notes when I find the existing ones better than mine I say so [e.g. 'disregard']. In some cases it is a matter of taste, which is also indicated by me ['open to discussion'].

Whatever your taste regarding scans is, mine aren't bad; I simply refrain from oversharpening and clipping, which helps keeping noise and compression artefacts down. Also helps to retain detail and colour.

Then first update the covers from the database to see if your scans are better or not and don't contribute your covers blind into the db!

Look, you don't get any yes votes from anybody! Your scans are crap.

Evo:

You may not know what scans are the correct ones and Invelos may not, but trust me WE do.Pay attention to the Voters, you do yourself no favors by ignoring what the vote comments tell you, even if it gets appproved and forcing another user to come back and replace your work with the coirrect images.

As for grouping them together.  There is a request for some kind of container to be added to the program so you can group movies together (locally of course) so you can have all you Bond movies together.  Or like it was said, do what I do with a lot of my foriegn films and use sort titles (I change the sort title for my foriegn films to the english equivilent title because it is easier for me to sort).  Change the sort to Bond 1, Bond 2, etc in the order you want the to come up in your sort list.

You may not know what scans are the correct ones and Invelos may not, but trust me WE do.

1. I do look into the votes.
2. Over the last few days I used all of my free time - like all of you - to help build up the database. Most of it I automated.
3. In some cases I did download the scans of others and was dissatisfied. Most are oversharpened, badly clipped, show bad colours. In some cases the wrong picture was contributed. 08/15 is a case in point, instead of contributing the correct back side of the box, the front was used a second time because it looks very similar. Another one is Tomorrow Never Dies, where I own the first print of the SE, which looks considerably different from the scan contributed by somebody else.
4. Why should I trust anybody but me? On what grounds, just because you* claim it? Especially in a matter of taste?
5. Why the heck do you think I add notes specifying why I think my scans are better than the ones existing? Either we are open to discussion or this whole enterprise is rather moot.

All this can easily be avoided if the scans get the same tratment as any other contributions: we need a checkmark for them. Hardly a new request.

*Rest assured, I am not attacking you personally; I found you to be a most helpful contributor.
