But as others have stated (and the program will tell you this, too) the mined data is for local use only, not for contribution. Awesome! I just used it for 1st and 10 and it worked like a charm! Thanks again!! | | | Reviewer, HorrorTalk.com

| Posted: | | | | Unfortunately not. There's no decent way to rip them off from IMDb. The cast data is in an easy to parse HTML table with a clean syntax.
The crew data is splattered all over the HTML. I'd also need a "translation map" that would parse the IMDb crew roles into DVD Profiler roles. But since I am not really interested in that data I never bothered.
Edith says it's not as worse as it looked like, but sorry, still not interested in that data.
The source codes for my programs are available. If anyone else wants to take a try, be my guest, I am also willing to give some pointers. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

I agree and the user needs to not be mining IMDb for data, I don't care what type he is the Rules absolutely forbid it. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

As far as submitting, I keep 99.9% of my additions/changes/corrections local, anyway, so you won't have to worry about submissions from me.
Oh - I don't worry.. just thought I'd mention my feelings on the subject..
As for the other replies regarding the "uselesness" of our ever-growing database - SERIOUSLY!! - it's deterioating as we speak (write). I've given up contributing - seeing that correct data already in the database, is changed by certain users, and accepted by Invelos even when the initial contribution has been extensively documented.
Keep on rockin' and keep the bad data coming - I for not will not add any (good nor bad) in the future - it's become too much of a hassle.....
See ya.....
PS: And for the record (to adress the original posters question) - I have been a clear 3 (borderline 4) in my time at Invelos. And I'm damn proud of saying so... Hate to see you go, my friend but a big thumbs up for your efforts at raing ALL boats instead of lowering the river. Hope you change your mind, we need more like you. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! Skip The rules forbid using IMDB for local data? I understand that submitting IMDB data is against the rules, but ... ? | | | If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Dr. Killpatient: Quote: I would hardly call our online database "useless". . Well... Cannot find titles when they are spelled "as on the cover" Overviews are horrible with advertising, spoilers, bold , italics, and sometimes typos Cast, studios, crew don't link Crew are a complete mess Covers are sometimes prehistoric (Warner boxes) and many very interesting data (headshots, screencaptures) are not in the online and must be shared by other ways. Now, to make a "good" profile takes as much time as to rebuilt everything from scratch The program makes a fantastic job when used in local, but suffers from online data elaborated by rules based on a wrong basis : rules where made to avoid pingponging, but forgot the intelligent and practical aspects. What can justify to keep typos (and not just in overviews : names, roles...)? How "as from the DVD" data can have a chance to link properly? Yes, the online is quite "useless", it just allows people who do not care about their data to have them without having anything to work on. But as they do not care, I'm not sure they would not prefer more profiles than less "per the rules" profiles... The dramas about contribution notes (with some users requesting encyclopedies) are significative of the short seeing of those who think that their hobby about "per the rules" data (nothing wrong with that hobby, of course), have any interest for others... | | | Images from movies |

It wouldn't take a month until he gets some letters from the lawyers because of copyright problems. And even Bill Gates could get into trouble licensing headshots for all these actors... |

Sheesh, the program will always have some things that could, in the eyes of some be better but...please give it a rest. It does sound like maybe..just maybe you are beginning to figure out the functtion of the Local vs. the online.<fingers crossed> that will be a miracle in and of itself.
