And in this case (BSG) you can't even compare it on the US market, as there are no individual season boxes on BluRay available.

Comparing DVD-/ BluRay-prices is something totally different.
Also the complete sets of Buffy or Friends reached these low prices after been a long time on the market, BSG a new release.

Do DVDs have a yield rate of 70% (according to sony, only valid for DL Blu-rays) in production?

There's nothing to clean up. BSG was shot on HDCam at 1080p. All the VFX were finished at 1080p. The intentionally added heavy film grain to give it a gritty documentary like feel.

Unless it's a George Lucas movie.

That's okay, but IMHO it always depends on the comparion:

BluRays are not more expensive as DVDs were in the beginning. 2001 I started to collect DVDs and it was absolutely normal to pay 50-60 DM (= 25-30€) for a DVD. Only a few DVDs which were released 1999 were cheaper (about 30 DM --> 15€).

So now we have the same price situation for BluRay as we had it for DVD. A newer format is always more expensive as the old one.

Well said. I'd love for BD prices to drop more but realistically speaking, we can't compare a new with an older format. I remember when DVD's were launched that some of them were up to 4 times the price of the same movie on VHS. Don't even get me started on some of the costly LD's I've bought back in the days. Somehow, I think we need to accept that the newest technology will always cost more than older tech, until it reaches a certain saturation point at which time prices will start to drop.

For those buying BD's like me and wanting to cut a few corners, it's always worth to keep certain big stores in sight and wait for special sales. That way, I've been able to buy some Blu-rays from 30 to 70% off. For example, Amazon UK now still has a B2G3 sale with a nice selection of Blu's going.

Regarding this set, I'd love to get it but for that price, I won't preorder. I'll wait until the reviews are out and I can have a clear view on the quality of the product before ordering. I did the same with the Star Trek movie set on Blu-ray and I'm glad I did, as it gave me a clear view on how much I'm willing to pay for the set.
