Quote: Question: How are the thousands of users who don't come into the forum expected to know the results of this sort of thread?
I've just seen a contribution changing Willie D to Willie and the first thing I did was check the CLT - which does NOT support the change. I was all ready to vote NO when I re-read the contributions notes and followed the link to this thread.
While I agree that supplying the link was helpful; this thread really doesn't change the fact that the rules state to use the CLT as the source for Credited As information.
I've recently updated the entire 4 seasons of Farscape - in which Lani Tupu was listed as Lani John Tupu [Lani Tupu}. Not once was he credited as Lani John Tupu in the entire series. However, I did not change the credited as because the CLT supported the entry. By the time I had finished the audits the results had changed and I was able to go back and change the entries and resubmit as credited.
My point is that if the CLT is not going to be used as the main source of information; how the hell is everyone else expected to know.
It would be completely correct to vote NO based on the results of the CLT. Ken has stated (can't find the link just know) that CLT results can be superseded if evidence such as this thread is provided that the CLT is currently incorrect. But, if someone doesn't supply the link. Or if the voter can't be bothered to follow the link then they would be quite within their right to vote NO based on the CLT results. That's all I'm saying. |

If someone doesn't supply the link and the CLT results - at first sight - seem to give the opposite result, then yes, you could ask for the link by way of voting no. Quote: Or if the voter can't be bothered to follow the link then they would be quite within their right to vote NO based on the CLT results. I strongly disagree. If the community has worked together to determine someone's common name with a thread like this one, and the contributor includes a direct link to such a thread to back up such a common name change, I don't think "can't be bothered to follow the link" is an appropriate reason for a "no"-vote. In this scenario, the contributor has done everything he could possibly do - there's really nothing else left - to make things easy for the voters. That really shouldn't be ignored: either the contribution is correct, or it's not. If it is correct, and it's well-documented with a link to a dedicated thread about that very particular issue, with a solid outcome, then "can't be bothered to follow the link" is not a valid reason for a "no"-vote. |

However, if a user documents errors in the database where the credit is not entered properly, that can and should be considered. Better yet, correct the entries, assuming you own the discs in question, thereby correcting the lookup results. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

Movie: The Bridges of Madison County Medium: DVD Region: 2 Locality: Germany UPC: 7321921137723 Release: Snapper [there's also a later Keep Case with same UPC]
We have been warned:
even the Keep Case of the german DVD with same UPC could possibly have different credits.
Not to speak of all the other releases with different UPCs, media, localities, Regions!
So I still do not understand the use of such surveys. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect] |

So I still do not understand the use of such surveys. Even though there is a little chance of different credits within the same movie (but different releases), this happens only in very rare occasions. So the use of this surveys is exactly what they say they are for: to uncover incorrect database entries. If for movie XY someone confirms an entry John Doe but the profile for my copy shows a John X. Doe it's hightime for me to do a full audit of this profile. But, I grant you that, this consequence might only be for me. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Performed cleanup to remove incorrect localities and update original titles. The results: Willie Burton: 99/625 -> 77/621 Willie D. Burton: 130/740 -> 80/714
Still a lot of wrong production years (and incorrect credits ofcourse), but we're getting there! |
