Actually, we don't get that many green arrows for the posts in the cats and dogs LOL threads. I don't know why everyone automatically thinks that guarantees you green arrows or extra stars.

Mixmaster_Mal posts frequently in the cats thread, and still has no stars. Caroline posts often, she's still been at one star forever.

If you just get one or two occasional greens for a single post, it's not going to do much to elevate your stars count. If you get 10+ greens for a single post, it'll often do quite a lot to get you a star(s). I've never once received even half that many greens for a post in either thread, nor do I ever ask anyone to give out greens for those threads.

We post in those threads because we enjoy doing it, and it's often not that quick and easy to go through 40-50 voting pages choosing the best ones (or creating them) to post here for anyone to enjoy.

And, erm...

I contributed many new BYs and posted in the official thread and got sometimes 30 or more positive votes in a month or less and still not a single star other than the starting level one that we all start off with.

Does anyone really know the system that is in place to warrant these reputation stars? There really doesn't seem to be any sort of logic to it. As others have pointed out, they've been helpful and still nothing.

OK.  Enough is enough. 441 accepted profile contributions, 400 accepted image contributions, a couple of hundred contribution votes cast and (it seems, as I have no idea what they are) 5 profle links submitted - not counting the 11 pending contributions as we speak (as it were)...  AND STILL ONLY ENTRY LEVEL SINGLE STAR??? What's a girl gotta do?  7,500 people have 'viewed me' and still a single star???

I even now follow the (really absurd) Captilisation rules of ratings and painstakingly type the REAL overview in from the box 'till my fingers bleed...  and what thanks?  Nada.

NADA!!!

That's it!  Gonna jump....  Gonna jump...

I gave you a greeny.

I think I got my first star when I had over 20 different postings gren-arrowed and some of them had more than 10 green arrows per post (the rest was one or two per post).

The second star came about two weeks later (conditions unknown).

I never noticed when I got the third star.

I've had more than 70 greenies at the same time, but the large number is insignificant, if they all came from only a few people.

GREENIE WAR!

It's obviously impossible to know how often arrows are given out, but over time, I believe that either the system changed or they aren't being given out as often as they used to be. I say this only because -- assuming there was no star system previously that transferred over -- this version of the forum had only been around a year and a half prior to my joining, and already I saw several people with at least 3 stars and maybe with 4.

Of course a lot more work was having to be done back then to transfer or re-add all of the old data to the new database and therein the smaller userbase "family" who'd been around for a while already might have been more inclined to rep each other for just about anything. Nonetheless, like was said above, I haven't seen any new (obvious) added stars in a long while.

I earned my first two stars from posts here-n-there. Then I got my 3rd star after a long period of time when I released HSDB v5.  My 4th star showed up over a year later when I released HSDB v6.  Both had multiple posts that received double-digit greens.

I typically average between 15-30 posts that received greens in a 30 day window though the number has dropped dramatically once I got my 4th star. Figure people figured I don't need 'em any more. I got bored with it and a few months ago tried to get a month with NO green arrows since I was being pretty inactive too. Made it one day with no greens and then I had to go and post something helpful and totally ruined it.

Currently have three greens.

Has anyone actually earnt a star recently?  I’ve not noticed anyone do so.

I clearly make the most accurate contributions, the most helpful posts, the funniest posts and I’ve got a cat; basically I do the best and most of everything around here and have done for the most time too.  (Not that I like to brag about it or anything.)  I’ve even invented 10,000 fictitious profiles (and paid for the Licenses for them) just so I can give myself thousands of green arrows for everything, yet still I’m just one of the proletariat, milling about on the streets with the downtrodden masses, chavs and hoddies, instead of hanging out with the DVD Profiler Royalty, which is my true vocation in life.  I’ve had to resort to sticking self-adhesive stars to my screen to give a fair reflection of my worth, so I don't burst into tears everytime I log in and see the blank space where the starts should be, mocking every aspect of my life, making me feel worthless and an all around bad person.

We need a Profiler Spring, (well okay Autumn* then) where we rise up and replace King Ken with a popular movement, (with me as, em, Emperor, or George Lucus or Captain Kirk, or someone).  I bet George Lucas would tinker with the Rules every single day!

* For our American cousins, that means the same as Fall.  We’ll need your help to do this too because, well, we always need your help...

yes you can Martian... Invelos just don't make it easy for some reason... when you go to database to vote on stuff...  you must click the white paper bringing you to the contribution notes for that profile. There you can see the read and green arrows to give reputation votes on contributions.

I'd like to have an easier way, because there are so much users not participating in the forum, but making many really good contributions. So I want to give them more than just a thanks in my vote. (Maybe this would also be a "motivator" for some) But...
Quote:

If you go to see what you got in reputation arrows you see it says forum posts/contribution notes. So I guess you are actually giving it for the notes you make for a contribution... but either way you can click arrows for contributions.

... I also think it is more a forum thing. In the normal voting process, you never see the stars of a user.
So it still wouldn't have much influence in the contributing/voting process.

Edit: tcremote, take one of mine. I never was really interested in them.

Helping in common name threads helps, too...

Posting bug reports when a new beta is out...

Helping people in the technical support area...

And then there are the dog and cat friends...

Helping someone in Technical Support gives you an almost guaranteed green arrow, but only one or two from the people that were helped.

Showing funny dog and cat pictures can give you a lot of green arrows, even though that has nothing much to do with DVD Profiler. Go figure.

Even more effective:
Bash one of the users with damaged reputation.
This will easily get you 15+ for a single post.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
