Obviously the installation path was changed to a custom location.

Now for some reason I tend to believe that this didn't happen in the recommended way.

Please check in the folder given by the error message if the file actorassign.dat exists.
If it doesn't (which I strongly believe), browse to the default location and copy the content of the folder "Database Templates" to the folder named in your error message.

The default installation path for DVDProfiler is:
on 32 Bit systems:
C:\Programs\DVProfiler\DatabaseTemplates

on 64 Bit systems
C:\Programs(x86)\DVProfiler\DatabaseTemplates

If (what I hope is not correct) the default directory doesn't exist, search your system for a folder named "DatabaseTemplates" and copy it's content to the folder named in the error message.

This should at least fix this problem.
Depending on the way you changed the default installation path others may arise.
Still the easiest way would be to do a complete re-install of your OS with the default settings.

For future use: Please, if not exactly knowing about the consequences, do not change the default installation settings of any program (and this explicitly includes your OS!).
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!

(1) Have you changed the default install directories and / or other folder paths? The path shown in that error message seems awfully strange to me.

No, I use the ones suggested by Dvd Profiler. This is the copied path from my laptop: C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler
Yes, the path shown in that error message is indeed awfully strange. There isn't any folder named "C:\source":



(2) Are you sharing the database(s) on a NAS or other shared storage?

No, I don't share it.

(3) Is DVD Profiler running in client / server mode (shared database)?

No, it isn't.

If so, uninstall DVD Profiler, then reinstall and accept all default installation and other paths. If you are running any other version than the latest official version downloaded from the Invleos site, shame on you. Do not accept any version of the software downloaded from somewhere else. It could be corrupt.

Don't worry, I'm paying customer and I'm only using what I've downloaded from this site. I'm using version 3.7.2, Build 1444.

Thanks for your time, I think I have to accept the repeating error message about the studios and distributors.

The error message suggest that, but as I've shown in my reply to mediadogg I'm using the location as suggested by Dvd Profiler.
By the way, the DBISAM Engine Error # 11010 Table error appeared after I changed the display language from Dutch to English. I haven't had that error before.

What I do find strange is that there are 2 folders with backup files:



and



The backup-files in the second screen-capture are the most recent. Could it be that they are conflicting with the same ones in the first screen-capture?
Can I safely remove the backup-files in the first screen-capture?

DVDProfiler is looking for it's files in a location that don't exist.
This leaves two options:
1) You help DVDProfiler and create those locations
2) You use the recovery DVD of your system.

I'd prefer option 2.
Because if you didn't point DVDProfiler to this "new" location something els must have done this. DVDProfiler wouldn't do this of it's on accord.

Since your machine is an ACER, you usually don't get any recovery software, but have to create a backup at first startup. Hopefully that was the case.

No, backup-files are simply storage files and not used until you choose them for database recovery.

That depends.
It won't harm your system, but since your system seems to be otherwise f***ed-up, I'd prefer to have as much backup-files as possible. Just in case.

Please also do the following:

Open the Registry Editor by opening the Start menu and typing regedit.exe in the textbox.

Then navigate to HKEY_Current_User -> Software -> Invelos Software -> DVD Profiler and check if the string value "AppPath" is correctly set to "C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler\"

The directory "C:\source\invelos\Dvdpro\DatabaseTemplates" that you are seeing in the "A database error occurred." error message dialog, is some sort of "fallback directory", i.e. it is built in the dvdpro.exe executable program itself.

Could this (the source of your problems) be a file/directory protection issue of the "should never happen" variety?

It happened only once, when I changed the display language from Dutch to English. Today I changed it back to Dutch without a problem, no error message.

The real problem for me is the one I started this topic with:


I get this 2 out of 3 times when I edit a studio or distributor in Dvd Profiler.

Since you have so far refused to take the advice to rebuild your apparently corrupt systems, I've run out of ideas. I'm not a big fan of registry cleaner software, but if you want to try that, go ahead. Uninstall DVD Profiler, run the cleaner, reboot, then re-install DVD Profiler.

One of the only ways I could understand how you could have this same issue on two different machines with a non-shared database, is that the same corruption is on both system - perhaps a virus or shareware that either accidentally or intentionally sabotages DVD Profiler.

"Can't"? There is no can't.

Posting in the forums costs Invelos real money and the rest of us, time and attention. If ever there were a case for having a backup for your OS platform, this is it. The least he could do is repay us by taking some good advice - and yes it will cost some money. The guy has over 4,000 DVDs in his collection. He ain't exactly broke.

Alas, the registry cleaner didn't solve it.
