| Posted: | | | | Not really. If you indeed do have sleep apnea - a formal sleep study (polysomnography) will tell if you do or not - it can be treated and eliminated as a factor quite effectively using CPAP. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea myself recently, and I'm using a CPAP machine myself now. It does take some getting used to (and it makes you look like the Elephant Man when you go to bed...), but if you're able to sleep with it, it does work wonders! | | | Last edited: by dee1959jay |

OK... got the results to the echo-cardiogram. While not the best news in the world... it could have been worse.
First he said I do have a strong heart... so that is good. While I don't have the classic enlarged heart where it actually grows bigger... I do have a type of enlarged heart where the muscles thicken. There is also some leakage in one of the heart valves. And the backside of my heart is a bit enlarged.
as I said... could have been worse. | | | Pete |

Said they have my meds straight now... but it could be the meds that spiked my kidney function... so may need to adjust meds once again. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I am happy to tell you all I was released today! Ah yes... home sweet home! My kidney functions are back to normal... my blood pressure is under control. I have an appointment to do the sleep study to be sure if I have sleep apnea or not. And I need to make follow up appointments for both my heart and kidneys.
Most of all... I am thrilled to be out of there! | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Congratulations, Pete! Glad to hear you made it out of there. There are two variants of the sleep study: one where you have to sleep in the hospital, and the other where you will be all wired up and then sent home to sleep. I had the latter (about 2 months ago). Do you know which variant you'll be getting? Take care! DJ |

| Posted: | | | | My wife and I both use a CPAP machine, me for about 2 years and my wife for about 4 years. Although it takes some getting used to, we absolutely love it, the air is soothing and all snoring stops.
If you end up needing one, there are several kinds: Full face (covered nose and mouth; I started with this kind); Nose only (my wife started with that kind); and what they call nasal pillows (plugs the end of your nostrils). We both are currently using the pillow kind and love it. If you end up with a CPAP machine, follow the maintenance instructions diligently, it is very important. The maintenance can seem like a big pain, but you will soon find a routine that works for you and only takes a few minutes.
Glad to hear you are home and on the mend with fixable problems. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |
