It's still a gamble but Passkey is owned by DVDFab which hasn't hinted at reneging on its lifetime licenses. When the AACS went after them, and affected their web address, they just moved to a Chinese domain.

Also, they have something called Passkey Lite which is free. I have to wait until the trial version is over to see exactly what it does. For my purposes, to do screen grabs, I'm curious to see if it works. If you need to backup titles, though, you'll need the full version.

Updated news, seems RedFox won't be offering LTL going forward.

Is there a decision made on the pricing of the products and which forms of license durations will be available?

[Ivan] No, this is still worked out. But we’re close. AnyDVD HD will be offered as a subscription, this is actually the only sensible business model, as there will always be new discs which need to be taken care of. The pricing isn’t ironed out yet, but a one year subscription will probably be 49,- EUR, a renewal 39,- EUR for the following year. Very simple and straightforward.

Well, I'm out on RedFox then @ $55/yr, that's just not worth it for what I need it for.

While I understand why the guys at Redfox would think that subscription is "the only sensible business model", I think they'll find it hard to compete with Passkey that offers a lifetime license at a bit over $100. That is, of course, provided that Passkey works as well as AnyDVD HD does.

That said, we'll have to see the final pricing decisions from Redfox. They have stated that they plan some kind of compensation for LTL customers. Probably not enough to make us jump for joy, though.

Yeah, same here. I'm just going to pop back in my 3rd BD-ROM drive and set the hardware region to B on that one.

I could probably be persuaded to pay $20 a year, but otherwise I can just live without it. I have plenty of region-free players here.

I considered that as well, but I'd have to spring for a new monitor also, as my current one is analog only.

It's actually less than that, there's a 25% off code taking it down to $79.20. But I'm going to wait and see when my trial ends what exactly the free lite version does.

I couldn't find a 25% discount for Passkey. I did find a 20% discount, but that's only good for another week.

SPRING25

Confusing website. So they have a 20% discount and a 25% discount in effect at the same time, but on the product page for Passkey they only show the 20% discount?

Better yet, enter PASSKEY50 to get a 50% discount for PassKey for DVD & Blu-ray.
The Lifetime license costs $52.80.

Wow, nice. Will have to jump on that. I've tried a couple discs and although it takes a bit longer compared with AnyDVD HD, it still works.
