For aesthetic reasons somewhere in the dark past, it became the standard, not by me I might add. Most of us who do so have been doing it for a very long time. If you don't have the ability to knock off the corners that's fine, likely at some point such a scan will be replaced by a more skillful user.. That is simply the way it is.
Skip The rules are the standard. Anything else is a preference. The question posed in the beginning of this thread is essentially is it ok to replace a squared-off version with a rounded-corner version. The rules-based answer to that is yes, it's ok. | | | ...James

Or you can accept the Convention that was established long before there were ever Rules, and as I said it was not a convention that i had ANYTHING to do with, though I think the end product is far more pleasing estheticall than the rounded corners. Personal preference is not a valid reason for a "no" vote. | | | Hal |

Skip If a cover has rounded corners, then a scan with rounded corners is a more accurate representation of the cover. | | | ...James

Skip And I cite this directly from the Rules, when I do: "...make sure your new covers are of significantly higher quality than the existing online images" Altering the image is not the same as determining if the new image is of "significantly higher quality". | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

| Posted: | | | | Well, technically, going by the rules, as long as everything else is the same, a rounded corner would be a more accurate scan for most covers and would have to be the one to take the vote in those instances.
What I find silly is that you guys are arguing over it. It's kinda like arguing over which looks better, attached or unattached earlobes.
To stop this, some sort of amendment needs to be added to the rules. | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | I agree Grendell, and that to me makes it an INFERIOR scan, hal. In otds NOT a SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT, Hal I will say this one time hal, since you seem determined to redo the Rules and cause all the work to have to be REDONE, you have done VERY little the last two years, if you want to upset the apple cart, then you had bettere be prepared to get to work on it. If you aren't and I am trying to be polite here...zip it. I have spent far too much time on this to allow someone, anyone to come in and turn it all upside down, just because he wants to a PITA to me. I am not trying to be argumentative, brag or anything else Hal, perhaps IF you had spent some ACTUAL time on this, you might have some appreciation for my feelings on the matter. Go forward NOT backwards.

Don't give me the "I'll say this one time" crap, Skip. You have repeated this "superior" attitude over and over not only directed at me but to just about everyone who has the audacity to disagree with you on this forum or who has the audacity to vote "no" on your contributions.

And it looks like crap. That is a personal opinion. Why is it every other part of the DVD has to match exactly, when possible, but scans do not. Seems like an odd stance to me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. We don't fix typos in overviews or credits either. Same thing. It seems clear to me that anything pertaining to the DVD is to represent it exactly as the DVD is. Not to alter it to our personal perferences. The rules about covers state the following. "The covers must match the profile exactly, including the UPC and locality." To me that means that scans must be exact copies of the DVD coverart and if that includes rounded corners than that is how the coverart is and that the scans must match that exactly. To alter the rounded corners to square corners is an alteration and does not match the cover exactly and is therefore not allowed. | | | Last edited: by CubbyUps |
