I bought Forbidden Planet R1 release late '97 (no DVDP) from a local video importer who went onto found Madman Entertaiment. Also got my first DVD player cost me A$1500 a Panasonic. Which would make you  today.

I have never looked back.

Anaconda from EB, plus a DVD Rom and on a return trip the next day a hardware decoder card, having discovered my processor really wasn't powerful enough on it's own.

Mine was Scary Movie - bought on release day 12. december 2000.

The next day I went out and bought myself a new TV (the tuner blew out in the old one) and my first DVD-player with no down payment!
The player was/is a  Sanyo -  I still have it - works perfectly! If/when it starts to act up, I'll probably get a Pioneer or Panasonic player... It just won't be this one! The page is in danish, but basically, the price is DKK 54,900 - which is about USD 10,200...

Talk about having too much money...
The future is here. It's just not widely distributed yet. (William Gibson)

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 28th August 2001 (a couple of months before I actually had a player) from Play.com for £13.99 ... and I still haven't watched it on DVD

By the time I had a player I already had a few more which took priority and then I kept buying faster than watching

Can't remember how long ago, but mine was Armageddon.
Took it back the next day cos it was 2 sided! (remember them?)
The shop refused to give me a refund, so was not a happy introduction to the new format.
Thankfully, a few months later the studio did a disc swap!

Austin Powers and Deep Impact
...something with lots of features (at the time) and something to show off 5.1 audio.

That was 1999 I believe.

I believe mine too have been the Bond Special Editions around May 2000, I purchased three the first week
Dr. No
From Russia with Love
Goldfinger
then went out and brought my first DVD player a few days later, haven't looked back since...didn't find DVDP until around 2005 though...Oh what fun keeping and maintaining similar records in Excel.

"Saving Private Ryan" -- we had just ordered a new Mac with a DVD-ROM and wanted a DVD to try it out. Costco had just put out this DVD a day or two before the Mac was to be delivered... so early November 1999 (my "purchase date" reflects the first two days I entered my collection into DVD Profiler).
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

My first dvd was Twister which I bought from Electronics Boutique. It was before I had a real dvd player, but had just bought a PS2 about a week earlier. The PS2 had just been released.

It wasnt until quite  while later that I got my first real dvd player which was this cheap one that I got free from Harvey Norman when we got a new airconditioner.

My first DVD came with the DVD/Laser Disk player and home theatre I bought from Pioneer around what  I think was 12 years ago. Same month my wife and I moved into our first, (and only)  house. It was Jerry Maguire, and as I hate Tom Cruise with a passion it was never watched. I think I gave it to my Aunt a couple years ago.
