I'm gone. This is idiotic that I cannot discuss characters in an eleven-month-old episode of a TV series.

Nobody said you couldn't discuss characters in and eleven-month-old episode of a TV series.  All anybody asked for was the courtesy of a **SPOILER ALERT**.  Is that really too much to ask for?

You have to remember that our neighbors across the pond do not always get US TV series at the same time we do.  Often, they are a season or two behind.

I have to agree with Vibro. It is rather odd that people are jumping on him for posting about a plot point that the majority of viewers (maybe not the majority of people here) saw 11 months ago. How long should spoilers be tagged as such?

You may not be aware, I know I wasn't at first, but our friends in other countries do not aways get US TV Series at the same time we do.

Something else I have learned from my time in this forum, many of our users do not watch TV series when the are broadcast on TV.  Quite a few wait until they are released on DVD so they can watch them straight through.

I honestly don't understand why anybody would be against marking a post with a **SPOILER ALERT**.  It takes, what, 5 seconds?

Agreed! E.g. you should not mention the ingredients of Soylent Green without a spoiler warning even though the film is 35 years old. The film has not been seen by a lot of people (specially younger people). Do you want to take away their fun?

BTW it would be helpful to have some kind of spoiler tag in the forum. So we could hide the spoiler text from people until they deliberately click on a button.

I am aware of that fact, but in the case of BSG, they got the DVD release before the US, and IIRC they got some of the season 3 episodes aired there before we got them here, as it is customary in the UK to air a complete season without any breaks like we do here. I think a Spoiler tag for the forum would be appropriate. In the case of people wishing spoilers to be kept forever then this whole thread should be wiped as it spoils things for people who haven't watched any of the new BSG series.

I don't think that this measure is necessary. But everybody who has posted in this thread may think about whether he wants to edit his posts to add a *** SPOILER WARNING *** (or something like this) in front of them.

IMHO: There sould be a reasonable time where you mark spoilers as such. Even after the original airing. I agree to that.

But at some point this has to be over. Otherwise whole topics in other forums (Invelos isn't really known for actually debating the contents of those shiny discs ) would consist of nothing but spoiler tags.

I for one have never seen Soylent Green but I wouldn't expect that people aren't allowed to talk freely about it just because there are people like me.

The entire topic is based on a spoiler (PvF asked about season 2 and he had no chance but to explain the circumstance to get a proper answer). Then he asked about Simon, I answered that after it was explained in the show and I marked it as "4x02".

At this point the I-don't-want-to-be-spoilered people should have been alarmed. Then Vibro explicitly quoted me and still they continued to read.

Yes, I acknowledge the spoiler problem, but I also think that there should be a balance between the have-watched and not-yet-watched.

I do not disagree with you.  Those that got 'spoiled' are just as responsible for reading past the first part of the post as the person who posted the spoiler...actually, they are probably more responsible.  However, I still do not see asking for a spoiler tag as that big a deal.

Agree, but for people to interested in this topic, they have to be somehow familiar with the characters.
So at some point, they have seen at least season 1 and are familiar with suspicions around a few characters.

Your text, may have contained some spoilers for some people, but it was short, concise and all text.
So it's relatively easy for anyone to skip it, if they feel it may spoil them.
If you would have include images of the human cylons, it would have made it really hard to skip and avoid.

Well, it is kinda hard to *not* see a post containing *inline* images of the four cylons revealed at the end of S3. That's what VibroCount originally posted without warning in a thread in the contribution forum that discusses how Grace Park should be credited. But even if posted somewhere else, it would still show up in the Today's Active Topics list.

BTW the US-DVDs of S3 have just been released a few weeks ago - so this isn't really stuff from the stone age we are talking about.

If you haven't seen a show, a spoiler can indeed spoil the pleasure of watching it, no matter how old the show is.
Let's say you start watching The Prisoner (1967): you don't want to be told if he is going to finally escape or not, no matter if the show is 40 years old and everybody else knows it!

In my view, a spoiler is a spoiler is a spoiler (and will always be).

Nobody is saying you can't discuss TV series - merely that you do so in the appropriate forum with some warning so that others can avoid seeing them.

The contribution forum is just that - and there was no suggestion that it would end up showing pictures of the Cylons.

All that would have been necessary would be to start a new topic in the General forum with Spoiler in the title.

- for the benefit of those in the US - a lot of people in the UK lost access to BSG when Sky removed Sky One from Virginmedia. This left only the options of illegally downloading it or getting the dvd set. Personally I prefer the legal option and getting the set from the US.

Point taken.  It is kinda hard to scroll past 11, fairly good sized, images.
