Start DVD Profiler. From the Menu click on DVD>Add to Collection. In the Add DVDs to Owned window select the Add Inserted Disc tab. Insert the first disc of the Box Set in your DVD-ROM drive. If DVDP recognizes the disc the title will appear in the title field. Click on Add DVD and the Personalize DVD window will open. Add your personalized info and click OK. Do this for all the discs in the Box Set. Once you've added all the discs click on Add Now to Owned.
Now locate your Box Set parent profile and double-click the title to enter Edit mode. Select Box Set Contents on the left side of the edit screen and search at the bottom for the titles that you just entered and assign them to the parent profile.
Edit: Also, when you insert a disc and DVD Profiler doesn't recognize it, a message box will pop up asking if you wish to add it manually to your collection. Clicking yes will open the Add DVDs to Owned window and you can select the Add Inserted Disc tab then.
Thanks 8ball, you are indeed on the ball. Instructions were perfect, worked exactly as you indicated. The only drag is that the count is now off by one as it considers the Box Set a DVD. But that's ok, I can handle that. Thanks for the reply.
DD. To adjust the count (Titles not Profiles), for the Box Set Parent, highlight > Personalise tick the "None" box at the end of the 'Collection Number' area. Steve |

Steve Oohhhhh, good one. OK, that is 80% of the way there. I reordered after setting all boxsets to None, and now the count at the end (by either moving down to the bottom of my list or by reversing the Collection number column), is correct. Total DVDs at the top is still incorrect, although I understand it is counting profiles and there is a profile for each of the box sets. Technically it should read Total Profiles, but I am not going to split hares over it (Bugs would object). Thanks, DD. |

| Posted: | | | | Heya Rooster,
Another thing you can do with boxsets is to assign a tag to them. That way you can filter them out to get a count and also to easily be able to see the "meat" of your collection without having the content free boxsets cluttering up the list. Everything ends up expanded and sorted into it's proper place.
If you already have them with collection numbers removed you can sort by collection number flag all of the box sets and use the menu item Collection -> Flag -> Edit tags to easily assign them all at once. |

Thanks, DD. Not quite sure how you are numbering...but a lot of us number films as individuals, box set films as individual films, whereas the box itself getting the "None" treatment in the personalise window, TV series, here the box is numbered but the child profiles get the "None" treatment. ie. Air Force One #1 Air Con #2 Adventures Indianna Jones (box) Indianna Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark #3 Indianna Jones and Temple of Doom #4 etc 24: Season 1 #6 24: Season 1: disc 1 24: Season 1: disc 2 etc 24: Season 2 #7 24: Season 2: disc 1 24: Season 2: disc 2 etc the Total Count at the Top will show as you have found (the total of all the Profiles) whereas the number count at the bottom of your list will show Total Title Count. | Posted: | | | | Thanks snarbo, I understand now how it works. Yes, that is exactly how I am numbering. For instance, Gladiator comes up as #211, Godfather DVD Collection as blank, Godfather (first child of collection) comes up correctly as #212, Godfather Part II comes up as #213. That is all fine now, I like the None setting for box sets.
At the top of the DVDP, it says "Total DVDs: 506". That count includes the Box Set profiles (ie. as if the blank example above counted). I can see why, there is a profile for Godfather DVD Collection as well as my other box sets. But I like Snark's idea. Setting a filter will easily eliminate the box sets from a particular view, meaning the "Total DVDs" figure will then be accurate.

| Posted: | | | | Ah, one more thing. Here is a tip in case any one else finds this particular discussion and ends up resolving it the same way I did. Using "Collection - Reassign Collection Numbers" from the DVDP menu is useful, but watch out for any DVDs you have in box sets which have custom sort entries. For instance, I have the Box Set "Adventures of Indiana Jones". That correctly came up after place 35 of my collection when ordering alphabetically (I have Box Sets set to None so they don't get a Collection number). But in order to ensure the movies in the Box Set were listed in order, I added custom sort entries "Indy 1, Indy 2, Indy 3, and Indy 4" to each movie in the Box Set. That appeared to work perfectly because they were all listed under the parent near the top of my list with all the other movies starting with an "A". However, when using "Reassign Collection Numbers", they were all given collection numbers in the 200's because the custom sort field started with an "i" so DVDP thought I wanted to give them Collection Numbers just after "Independence Day".
So now my collection went 34, 35, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 36, 37, 38, etc.
It's hard to explain, I should up an image. At any rate, the solution is easy. Just make sure your custom sort for films within the box set start with the same letters as your Box Set, then they will be assigned Collection Numbers in sequence. Changing my custom sort entries to "Adventures of Indiana Jones 1, Adventures of Indiana Jones 2, etc." gave them the sequence numbers 36, 37, 38, and 39.

DD. That's usually how I handle box set sorting. :-) It also has the advantage of keeping things happy in your online collection if you do it that way. The box set appears first, followed by the child discs. |
