I know it's a heresy to say it, but perhaps the rules are still guidelines (although perhaps somewhat stricter than when they were actually called guidelines)...?

Guidelines? GUIDELINES????

My positions are always consistent with the intent of the Rules. Sadly, some people simply want to insult and create chaos rather than to actually listen to what the intent was.Others, who while they had absolutely nothing to do with the Rules in any way, pretend that they know more than actually do. I will never address something that has changed drastically from the material that i have in my computer files here, but other than the changes to the program that Ken has dealt with, there is little or no difference from the Original notes i began typing FIVE years ago and the Rules that were written three years ago. It is not my concern that some users choose to behave as trolls, and try to cause chaos and confusion at each and every opportunity...largely because they don't want Rules, they want the Wild West of Profiler, this is apparent in their various postings and lack of civility.

That said, I would advocate using dividers, even though it's against a strict interpretation of the rules.

So would I, for the online database, since that is the way to make the most possible data about that release available to everyone.

Locally, I would create the "parent" boxset profile  under the boxset rules using the UPC, then I'd create a profile for the first movie using the disc ID, and create a manual profile for the second movie.  That way, locally, I have captured all of the data that I want to track in DVDP for both movies.

I don't know exactly what Surfeur's goal is within this thread, but I'm guessing he's trying to point out the inconsistencies in some peoples arguments.

When it suits them. they say "just follow the rules", but when it doesn't suit them they roll their eyes at the suggestion that the rules should be followed exactly as written.

If this is Surfeur's way of saying "you can't have it both ways" then I agree with him.

This is exactly what I meant. I'm fed up with some censors that explain you that rules must be followed without any interpretation, then do what they want when they find something is a problem for themselves.

In fact, rules cannot, and will never, cover all the cases that can appear. From the beginning, I wrote that I think that the proper way is to apply rules in 99% of cases, and be intelligent when necessary. But for saying that I've been often treated of anarchist...

What is to be intelligent, and is there a risk of pingponging ? Perhaps with the current system. Perhaps not with a yes/no vote based more on the value added to the database, than on the strict conformity to the rules.

The Invelos evaluators' standing policy is to accept profiles that add significant value.  They do not have to be complete, nor even completely accurate.  ...

I really would be happy to see something like that at the beginning of the rules.

No, your positions are often consistent with your opinion of the intent of the Rules.

You can only give your opinion of the intent, not the intent itself.

But, the current rules do not belong to you, they belong to Invelos. And you sir do not work for Invelos and do not have the right to speak for them. Ken Cole's intent for the current rules is something that only he or his wife can state (unless they add more people to their company).

You might spend a bit of time reviewing your own posting style before you accuse others of a "lack of civility". Take a look at any long thread that is full of name calling. You will find that in every case you have been a major poster to that thread and more often then not you were the first to start the name calling and mud slinging.

As has been pointed out time and time again, intent means nothing.

- Speeding? I wasn't speeding, officer! I was only doing 45 in a 50 zone!
- Well, I happen to know that the intent was to make this a 30 zone!

The rules are what they say, not what you intended them to say.
