| Posted: | | | | My point was simply that few thousand DVD collection doesn't take 125TB disc space, not even close. Also I've seen very large rack mounted SAN system at my friend's home, so I know that it is feasible too. If it's not feasible for everyone, that doesn't make it a fact that some people doesn't have them. I just don't get why one has to exaggerate and lie every time. |

Then one of us in fact does have his math wrong. I gave a specific example where it was indeed close. Do you have a specific counter example? I didn't exaggerate or lie. I performed multiplication and division. If there was a mistake, please point it out ... Oh and I totally agree that feasibility is in the eyes of the beholder. I personally probably have close to 100 TB spinning on three servers. Some would call that excessive, but it represents years of collecting and creating media, and multiple backups. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | OK guys, we can stop now and behave like humans again. The thread-opener obviously has left this site. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I have 618 movies on my NAS (420 blu-ray, 198 DVD), all in MKV lossless format, main feature only. Total: 8.79 TB
I own those movies. Also have most of my TV series on it and use it for other storage purposes. Utilize UNRAID to take advantage of up to 23 hard drives of mixed capacities and parity. Currently has 1.5 TB (6), 2 TB (2), and 3 TB (3) for a total of 19 TB of space. Theoretical max capacity of 88TB utilizing 23 4TB drives (92TB without parity). |

If you take that 4,500 number that was thrown out earlier, assume the user has a mix of DVD and Blu-ray, assume you have a 1:1 copy of the discs, account for redundancy, etc. you could get pretty close to that number 125 TB number. You'll get there even faster if the user has a lot of blu-rays. |

| Posted: | | | | Please note that I specified in my remark, all of the goodies, not just the film. If I recall the number correctly I have somewhere in the vicinity of 9000 discs for roughly 5000 titles. You can do the math its not too hard. Some users need to be very careful of the type of language they seem to like to throw around. I won't name anyone but I will | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | How much space someone's collection would take on a NAS doesn't really weigh that much in the grand scheme of things. People shouldn't get bent on things that matter not. |
