You must be right.  No crew can be entered for foreign films since they don't match exactly.

No.  A functional equivalent could be any number of different "terms".  The most commonly used is a single "term".

That would be discrimination of foreign languages. In English more than one term would be allowed because more than one term is listed in the table. But in foreign languages only the most  commonly used one should be allowed?

Yes of course most people know which "functional equivalents" should be allowed. And in fact most people actually do enter them even into the database and strictly speaking they are breaking the rules. Therefore the rules should officially allow functional equivalents.

Would we get some discussions in the forum on individual cases? Yes, of course.
Would there be more discussions than we have now? No, I don't think so.

You're almost correct. In the rare case, where the role name is a direct translation, the rules do allow the credit.

Luckily not everybody is strictly following the rules. Otherwise we would have no foreign crew credit until recently at all. (EDIT: Actually we would have no crew credit at all, even for Hollywood films, because the rules have pointed to a column which did not exist until recently.)

We are constantly breaking or at least stretching the rules. It would be better of course if the rules would be changed to represent what we (as in most of the community, whatever that means) want to and already do enter into the database.

If that means that you concede that this is where your strict application of the rules lead us, then yes, I am happy.

If it means that you actually think that's how it should be done, then no, I'm not happy.

If you won't accept functional equivalents, do you have another workable solution?

No, it means that you just want to argue for the sake of arguing, and I'm not interested.

It's not up to me to accept functional equivalents or not.

Submit whatever you like.

The screeners will have to sort it out, just like they always have in the past.

The only way to have a definitive answer to which credits are allowable in non-English profiles, is for Ken to sanction a translation of the Rules for each language.

For English profiles we have a specific set of role names that are allowable.  I prefer that, because it eliminates the shoehorning and arguments about "functional equivalents".
