You can delete post, but not, in our memory, what we have read. Your practise is not only useless, but it just adds anger and frustration and will not help to purify the atmosphere, just the contrary, as people may go on saying what they want. They know their only "punishment" will be the deletion of the evidence of their acts.

If you want people to listen to what you have to say, you need to find a civil way to say it.

Easy.. You ban users who attack others. You begin by three days, than a week, than for ever...

If Invelos decides that a post has to be deleted than there is something wrong with the post in their eyes and the creator of the post needs to get a warning and/or a punishment otherwise they will need to continue to delete and delete and delete...

I don't post much, I know, but I think that if there needs to be moderation in this forum then it needs to be clear:

  • what the rules are, besides the normal, civil way of talking

  • who the moderators are. Using a seperate name for them doesn't make me trust them. Maybe it is just one personon doing this or maybe there are tons of people moderating, everyone with his/her own wat of doing their job.

  • a way to contact moderators

  • deleted topics/post should still be 'seen', even when the text in it has been deleted, so that we non mods can see that something has been removed

  • Edwin, who has been modding forums for the last ten years
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

Keep it civil and to the point. The personal attacks that ping pong between people are pointless and detract from the thread. They will continue to be deleted.

Sorry but this is completly wrong and amateur. I was one of the first to be happy to see this forum moderated, but...

Deleting a post without reasons, without warning and without sending a PM to the poster to let him know the reasons aren't good moderation it's 1984. I'm on many others forum with way more traffic than here and the way you do it isn't how it's work at any of those places.

You can delete this post too, but like the other it is perfectly in respect with the forum guidelines.

Let's stick to the topic at hand. If you want to discuss forum moderation, I suggest you start another thread.

Deleted several posts that were off topic to this thread.

1st time visiting here in almost 4 months, sorry to read this thread and even more sorry to see Richie "retiring". Richie's been around since before I got here and I've been here for 6 years.

    Cheers Richie!

So what's the topic we're supposed to stick to again? That a long time and respected contributor is leaving because of Skip?

He doesn't contribute but that doesn't mean he doesn't still have the right to post. I may not agree with the way some of his posts are worded but I do believe that he means well & has the best intentions for the database, exactly the same as most of us.

Frankly, with all the thread editing going on, I can't tell if this is meant to eulogize the member who left or defend the original offensive poster.  Maybe the whole thread should be trashed and we can just start over.
