Photobucket have removed it. Edit: but here's a link to the DVD on Amazon. You can see the cover there. | | | Last edited: by northbloke |

When the title starts on the screen, it starts with large black bold font that fades in first that says Step Up 2 then the streets fades in next. The streets is in smaller font and is red. When they are finally together on screen the streets is under Step Up 2 and off center by over half the word. |

When the title starts on the screen, it starts with large black bold font that fades in first that says Step Up 2 then the streets fades in next. The streets is in smaller font and is red. When they are finally together on screen the streets is under Step Up 2 and off center by over half the word. Unfortunatley that's irrelevant Dragon as we no longer use the film's credits to determine the DVD title. Now, the only time the title in the film's credits comes into play is when determining the Original Title...sadly . | | | My WebGenDVD online Collection |

| Posted: | | | | I do under stand that the title comes from the cover. What is in question is the word The Streets. The opening credits shows The Streets is a subtitle of Step Up 2 by how it is presented. | | | Last edited: by Dragon 6 |

| Posted: | | | | It might also help to be reminded why I asked for that info in the first place: Quote: it seems to make sense to try and work out what the "original title" would be, as it may help us decide what the DVD makers intended the front cover to read. |

Unfortunately, even then it mostly doesn't. It should, obviously, but somehow we got stuck with rules that tell us to get the original title from the "copyright notice" (without explaining what that actually means - and let me assure you that it's really not that obvious to most users), and only if there isn't any, "from the film's credits." In reality, this means that in cases where it really matters, the REAL title from the actual film credits is still inexplicably disregarded. | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Quoting Grendell: Quote: Read rules -> Read front cover -> Read back cover -> Check overview -> Check title block -> Check multiple sources on the Internet -> Draw conclusion using rules + best judgement
Following this yields "Step Up 2 the Streets"
Read Rules -> Read front cover -> Technically apply rules "by the book," use no judgement
Following this yields "Step Up 2: The Streets"
Which one would you rather have the online database be based on? Actually there is a judgment made. Your second example is impossible. One has to determine if it's a sequel or not and if there is an episode descriptor in order to do what you call "technically apply rules". Quoting hal9g: Quote: Looking at the title objectively, it seems clear that the filmmakers wanted to be indicate that this was a sequel by including "2" in the title, but at the same time they used "2" as a substitute for the word "to" so that when you say the title, you say "Step Up to the Street"; you don't say "Step Up 2.......pause......The Street"; therefore "The Street" is not an episode descriptor.
Therefore, I have to agree with James and Nadja that the title should be "Step Up 2 the Street".
Thanks, Hal. I was getting cold outside. Quoting Unicus69: Quote: And let's be honest here, who really believes the 'filmmakers' had anything to do with what is written on the back cover? So the filmmakers could have intended "the streets" to be an episode descriptor but the creators of the DVD cover got a little over exuberant and decided to make the title look like a phrase when it really isn't? Are you denying that the title is a phrase? Quoting skipnet50: Quote: James, as I see it we have what the Rules tell us to do with SEQUELS, ANYTHING else is simply trying to rationalize a reason to not follow the Rules.
Skip As others have pointed out, the rules say what to do with episode descriptors. "The Streets" is not an episode descriptor. Quoting lyonsden5: Quote: Wow - you guys are really going to be in trouble when the release the 3rd installment (Yes James - it's a sequel - ahthough I agree with you there is nothing on the front cover that tells you that )
So, how will this title be shown in DVDP?

As others have pointed out, the rules say what to do with episode descriptors. "The Streets" is not an episode descriptor. In your opinion. Just because it does not have a colon. Like I have said before there are many titles out there that do not have a colon anywhere on the dvd. |
