I would not restore neither posts nor links. It has been Giga Wizard's decision to delete them and we should respect that. We as a community are strong enough to fill in the wholes he left behind.

Giga has PMed me and indicated he is amenable to the restoration of a good many of the links.  They need to go somewhere - I can transfer them to an admin account but I would prefer to dole them out to one or more users who can make updates as needed.  Dr.K has volunteered - anyone else?

I wouldn't mind helping out on some of them... but if it matters I am not sure that I have many of the same profiles/titles... as I seldomly seen any of his updates.

I am glad that the links will be restored
Good decision!

And the topics he did should also be restored in my opinion

And of course GIGA will be missed, but I said that many times already.

Why not restore the links and the postings to an "Alan Smithee" account?

This is the first time I have ever seen the site/forum owner decide to actually leave the posts deleted.

I moderate 2 forums myself, and use several. I have never even seen a site that wouldnt let a user delete hes/hers posts. We actually do the deleting on one site, if the user asks.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of forums do you moderate?  I have moderated user forums for software companies and none of them allowed what happened here.  They might, upon request, delete a post or two, but never wholesale removal.  It simply wasn't allowed.

Yeah, this whole incident is the most bizarre thing I have ever seen to date, both from the site administration side who doesn't see a problem with losing content, and from the user base side, most of whom seem to support the user's actions.

Very very strange, I can't make heads or tails of it.

I wish the subject text were restored.  It's very hard to open this message when all you have is a dot to click on.

On a user side I think we're being supportive towards a generally well-liked, helpful member of the community. Although a fair few have said they don't understand why the need to delete. I do feel that the user who told him to take his rubbish with him probably helped push him that way.

On the Admin side I think that Ken tries to be more of a father figure to his "children" & respected Giga's decision to take the info with him. I'm not sure that there are many who would've done it that way though.

Sure, I'm also game for updating some of them in the future as needed.

Hello,

As I'm from France and Belgium maybe I have some same DVD/Blu-ray than Giga and I can check/update if needed to help and make available to the community.

They must truly not care about their business. I can't see any other explanation

Actually it is out of respect for the person who did the deleting.  If Giga asks me to, I'll restore the posts in a minute.  Also, if he asks I'll be happy to transfer the deleted links to an admin account/another user account.

OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE PERSON?? Give me a break. I cannot respect a person who acts like this ( a spoiled brat, I'll just take my ball and go home).

There are so many things wrong with this statement (legally and morally) that I don't know where to start, and won't bother.

Many, many people (including myself) have stopped contributing to this forum because we got sick of the constant abuse.

I don't expect anything to be learnt from this episode. What a pity.

I think it is perfectly fair to stop contributing to the forum (there is often a nasty tone that enters these forums over something that is clearly a hobby).  I think it is perfectly fair to delete your account, uninstall DVD Profiler and never look back.  But what I don't think is fair is vandalizing the forums and profile links because you were unhappy with one particular user's comments.  If I were suddenly outraged over a rule change or because one of the users was rude, would it be fair to start uploading blank profiles of those titles I contributed over the years?  I'd expect everyone to tell me to drop dead.

I don't see the difference here.  If he had removed every post from that particular thread, I would understand.  But he went back and undid months worth of threads, causing problems for future users who might want to search on that particular topic.  Many of those links were probably not contributed by other users because he did them first (thankfully, this problem seems to solved).  Giga didn't just take his ball and go home.  He handed many balls out, then decided to forcibly take them back and pop them before heading home.

His decision to quit is terrible for us.  He was a valuable contributor and there are so few to the program that it will be a huge loss.  But that doesn't give him the right to go out in such a childish manner.  It tarnishes the good things he did here.

That is fine if a person does not want to participate any longer, that is up to the individual. But to go and destory part of the community, that is not acceptable.

I have noticed that he has not cancelled his membership, so he still has the ability to profit from the rest of the communities work. What Giga did is questionable morally.
