| Posted: | | | | I recently came across these handy DVD Totes. I love them as storage for my aging DVDs. Now I have space in my cabinets for more current DVDs and BDs. The totes are sturdy, portable, and when full, can even be stacked. I picked up 7 sets of 2 for about $100 from Amazon. They claim to hold 40 DVDs per tote, but I have found that 35 - 37 is more realistic, without unduly stretching the plastic. Oh, and the fact that you can see the case splines thru the transparent sides is really handy. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | To store efficiently you have to get rid of cases and air. A simple 7 cm A 4 ring binder holds at least 40 DVDs, covers unfolded. In this picture 200 DVDs, compared to the size of one DVD. Having said that... I completely lost control. | Posted: | | | | Quoting whispering: Quote: Though 5b's A4 binders look intriguing, what type of sleeves did you use in them? I once investigated that route, and didn't find any sleeves for the purpose. Nothing special. Those: or those: They are only for the discs. Two per pocket. The covers are in ordinary A4 clear plastic pockets, unfolded, also two per pocket: A standard 80 cm Billy could hold 4 rows with 9 binders (because of the fixed shelf in the middle) = 1440 DVDs. You'd have two free rows which can hold another 208 DVD cases when double stacked (e.g. steelbooks, mediabooks, 2 disc-editions, ...). 1648 DVDs would not be bad for a Billy, but I use my Billy for TV series. I'm quite happy with the ALDI boxboards: Stable, hinged cover, sideways opening for transport. For reasons of clarity, always 20 double-pockets per binder, so that each binder holds 40 DVDs, and always 5 binders per box, so that each box holds 200 DVDs. | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. Thanks for the reply. I've been trying to find a sleeve that would combine those two. It seems ridiculous that they make all these sleeves where you have to fold the front covers and all that. When a slightly narrow A4 sleeve with 2 DVD pockets on the back would do the job better.
I actually just asked for a quota from a finnish company that does sleeves, to see how much it would cost to make them custom. |

--------------- Yes pretty much. But with half the price. Found one that would be 1/3 of the price: http://www.3kaze.com/But a bit iffy on the store that sells them. Sent them an email and ill see if i'll go that road. Its a bit more safe going with paypal though. |

| Posted: | | | | "How do people with large collections store/catalog their DVDs?"I store them on 4 wall shelves that look like this I also have 3 large (6' X 4" X 3') metal storage cabinets with doors that I use for storing more DVDs. For cataloging I use DVDP (previously I used spreadsheets), but nothing is cataloged by bin location or anything.....If I want to watch a film I cross my fingers and search... My old VHS tape collection These pics were taken around 2010, basement of my parents house where I used to store them. The tapes (over 5,000 of them) were all bought in the pre-DVD days (1970s-1990s). Last year (2013) they wanted to renovate/clean the basement and said why don't I try to sell them if I no longer watched them (haven't seen one since 2000)....I told them they weren't worth anything....I ended up getting a dumpster in their driveway and (took me most of the day) dumped the whole lot (the wife says the same will happen to my DVDs)... |

I hope not! Big difference in DVDs in VHS! Most people still watch DVD.. so hopefully DVDs won't be as worthless as VHS for quite awhile... | | | HDTV: 52" Toshiba Regza 52XV545U AVR: Onkyo TR-707 Speakers: Paradigm Monitor 7 v6, CC-190 & Atom Monitors Subwoofer: Definitive Technology ProSub 800 BD/DVD: Oppo BDP-93 (Region Free) HD PVR: Motorola DXC3400 500GB w/ 1TB Expander BD/DVD/Game: 250GB PS3 Slim DVD/Game: 250GB XBox 360 Elite Special Edition (Black) Game: Wii Remote: Logitech Harmony One w/ PS3 Adapter WHS: Acer H341 Windows Home Server |

| Posted: | | | | In terms of selling a product: nothing has worth unless someone wants to buy them, be it VHS tapes, DVD, gold, or diamonds, and everything has worth, no matter how worthless others may think that it is, as long as there is someone who will buy it. There is no value in something just for simply existing.
I still see people buying VHS tapes on eBay. though for very little, of course. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.

| Posted: | | | | I've got a copy of every VHS (as well as DVD / BD) release of Star Wars. My sons are looking forward to passing those down to their sons, and so on ...
And I wouldn't part with my still shrink-wrapped VHS copy of Shindler's List. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!! BDPFrog. | | | Last edited: by mediadogg |

| Posted: | | | | Around here, those Disney VHS's would be worth about 2 to 5 bucks a pop. Not a fortune, but for VHS, not too shabby. They also sell pretty quickly. | | | Lori |

| Posted: | | | | At local fleamarkets VHS tapes can be had for 6 for a buck, right next to 10 cents a piece 8 track cartridges. Heck, brand new, shrink wrapped DVDs can be had for a buck or two...
I have never collected anything for the sake of its (monetary) value....how much is it gonna be worth in the future? The value for me was in the enjoyment I got from it.
Only a qustion of time but CDs/DVDs/Bluerays will join the long list of obsolete, forgotten (by most) prerecorded media formats..... wax cylinders, shellac 78s, Vinyl 45s & 33s, 4 track cartridges, 8 track cartridges, cassettes, DCC cassettes, DAT cassettes, mini discs, open reel tapes, 8mm home movies, betamax video cassettes, VHS videocassettes, CED video discs, laser discs, HD DVD...
...I'll continue to collect for the fun/enjoyment, not $$$ |

| Posted: | | | | Finally decided to buy the sleeves from 3kaze. Got the 400 pack with the folders. Basically you get 400 disc sleeves and 400 cover sleeves, you can either add the disc sleeves inside the cover sleeve or add them separately to the folder. The Disc sleeves were dual sided, so one can hold 2 discs. Both sleeves have a lid. What i started with, already had filled 3 folders: Didn't like the folders, they were regular ring folders, the rings weren't as high as the folder, so i lost some space there. It also didn't have the lock mechanism, so the sleeves weren't staying in place. Decided to buy 50 A5 sized folders from Herlitz (sturdy, rings go through the cover, lock mechanism, 10 year guarantee, made in Germany. Love them). The 3kaze ones: The Herlitz ones: Back sides Herlitz on the right: Where i'm at the moment, still need to buy 1000 more sleeves |

The only thing I, personally, don't like is the folding of the covers in A5. What do YOU do with the now empty cases? | | | Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played.
