| Posted: | | | | It's not a bad analogy. He's american. The Nazis were America's enemy. They were the bad guys who wanted to build an empire of the Evil. And everybody who doesn't agree with Skip is an evil guy who wants to build a bad database. From his POV the analogy fits perfectly. He misses of course the point that a certain Führer also never thought of himself of the bad guy. He was simply right and the world was destined to follow his lead. You may not have the intention of coming of this way, or at least that's what you tell people on these forums, but the fact remains that you do indeed come off as offensive to quite a few users. In my relatively short time here, I have read quite a bit of these forums, and there have been countless arguments similiar to this and you are always at the other end of them. There are many other veterans in these forums that have strong opinions towards the database that do not have the same problems, so why do you? Do you ever ask yourself that question? I know you deeply care about this database, and I get a strong feeling you feel a certain amount of ownership of said data that is present online, due to how "passionate" you get when someone is "ruining" it. I hate to break it to you though, but people who bought the program yesterday, have just is much ownership (Invelos of course actually owns all data) to the data that you do. And they also have just as much say as to what goes into the database that you do. This is a community driven database, not a Skip driven one. You can offer suggestions, and guidence of course, and sometimes you succeed in doing just that, but more often then not, you succeed in scaring people off. I've seen at least one user not purchase the program due to comments just like ones found in this topic directed at him, and that doesn't even include those just browsing, not posting. Like I said, I'd like to believe that you don't intentionally come off this way, but posts like this: Quoting Dr Pavlov: Quote: Richie:
It had me laughing from Tim's very first post. The most amusing are the brown shirts who are here.
Skip ...do not help your side of the story one bit. I for one would like to see a Skip that uses his knowledge and experience of being here since the start to actually *help* people and bring new users to this program so that it continues to grow. This of course would mean you would have to become just a tad more open to new ideas that these new users bring to the table...not shut them down immediately claiming some kind of "truth" that only you know. Anyway, just my two cents, and hope to see an improvement Skip. | | | "The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire |

| Posted: | | | | Excellent post Vittra, but unfortunately I get the feeling it will fall on deaf ears. Skip was exactly the same when I first got involved in the forums a few years ago and I've seen other users try to explain to him that maybe, just maybe, it is him and not everyone else but they fell on deaf ears too.
To be honest, I really do wonder why Invelos haven't done something about it - they must realise he is driving customers - and their income - away. |
