Excuse my ignorance here but I'm late to the party. I've noticed when selecting "Refresh Online Profile List" that a window pops up briefly and then disappears. This has been going on for some time. I seem to get more luck on "Refresh Updated Profiles from Invelos" though. Could anyone briefly tell me what is up and is there anything to remedy it? I notice the last update was years ago and I guess that is it for the foreseeable future.

Thanks, that worked! I'm curious was this a work around discovered or is it buried in some guidance somewhere? I would think the former. If so, sad that those concerned couldn't fix a major feature of the program at this time.

The method of downloading a complete online profile list is documented in Support, just in relation to a different issue.

In the Support Knowledge base under Crash /  Hang,  Floating Point Error, or missing text on buttons.

"This error can also be caused by a corrupted online profile list file. To correct this, from DVD Profiler's main menu, select Online->Refresh Online Profile List while holding CTRL."

"Floating Point Error" and "Missing Text on Buttons" - Talk about obscure locations to seek instructions for this specific problem! I for one don't have that much time to ferret out such guidance. I think this is really poor; however, it is good to know there are others that do. So, once again thanks.

Yup i think this app is on its arse now.  Completely unacceptable the lack of comms from the devs regarding this age-old ongoing issue.

I have a different view of the situation.

"The devs" is actually one person, Ken Cole, and we haven't heard from him in over 7 years. My conclusion is that he is, for whatever reason, not available. So there is not likely to be any further development or fixes. What there is is what we have. The desktop program is a bit hobbled, but for the most part it is working. The site and the online database is still being supported by someone.

Are there shortcomings that you cannot accept, or can you live with what there is? Remember, staying with DVD Profiler as it is will cost you nothing more. As far as I know, you won't find anything of similar functionality that doesn't come with a subscription.

I chose not to focus on the negative. I am glad that I can still use DVD Profiler, such as it is. I try to support its users with my freeware tools. Other users do their bit with contributions, researching birth years and common names. So let's not make things worse by sowing discontent.

I agree principally Gunnar, but with this issue things are somewhat different. After all, this is 100% a server API issue. A you say, someone IS keeping the server alive. If only they were aware of this issue, I'm sure they could fix it easily. I haven't reverse engineered the calls, but my suspicion is that while the latest DB files are still copied to the necessary server location, the DB diff files are not. Could be as simple as a missing cron job after a server move.

I doubt that they are unaware of the issues. I have no idea why the issues haven't been fixed. If it would be as easy as you surmise, then it ought to have been fixed by now. But who knows? The total silence is bewildering ...

If the desktop app isn't going to be updated/patched to address this issue, then this topic should probably be pinned.  Or start a new topic that has the work-around as the first post and pin that topic.

I have absolutely zero issues with the app no longer being supported, updated, maintained, whatever.

What I have a problem with is users not being informed of the state of play. That, I find absolutely unacceptable.
