I was wondering if you downloaded a DVD for R1 and then changed the UPC for the R4 copy would the upload be for a new DVD for the R4 version or would the R1 UPC be updated and the original lost.

Yes I understand I would have to change the other "stuff" (images, special features, sound tracks, NTSC to PAL etc.) but at least this way I would not have to re-enter all the cast and crew !!!!!

Who resckons it would work.  More importantly, who here who knows the system can verify this before I attempt it

Lyekka thinks my sole is tasty.

as for crediting cast & crew, I generally get that from IMDB.  Are you saying I need to watch all the credit

So I guess I am not the first to think of this

Carefull mentioning the IMDB here - it is evil and will corrupt your sole, making it even more tasty

Seriously, whilst you can use IMDB, it is NOT an accepted verified source - you watching the end credits is!

So, never admit to using IMDB as your One and Only source

Agreed... if this company gets sued and closed down because of people copying from the IMDb (which could very easily happen) I would definitely be up for the formation of a posse and improptu "hanging party" for any member responsible.

The one exception I would accept is using some sort of import program to 'copy and paste' a basic list to save all the writing out but then checking it by hand/eye from the actual credits and make any necessary changes to match the Contribution Rules.

I tried doing that a couple of times with IMDB data. It was easier to start from scratch the amount of alterations and downright mistakes there were.

It's almost as much work to do all the mucking about with cut and paste, so you may as well do it right and type it directly from the credits.

True, I was thinking more of a 'virtual' cut and paste using some of the .hph stuff that's out there to import directly then modify them within profiler rather than a real cut and paste which really doesn't help that much... however, as Kevin says, the point remains that even just fixing them often takes as much time as starting from scratch!

MoonShadow outside of possile legal issues, etc, the biggest reason not to use IMDB is that a lot of their content is like ours, it is user added (useless they have changed how they do things) and added data to DVD Profiler from IMDB would be like saying I heard so and so was in the movie from that guy other there.

Some interesting comments, thanks guys.

Generally speaking I use the credits list off the back of the DVD.  I use IMDB to check my spelling (which is probably just as bad as copying from them  )

Lately (with Bond, James Bond) I have found that a person listed as "Blowfeld" on the DVD insert is listed as "Ernst Starvo Blowfeld" on that other place.  I preferr to list a full name, but is this changing the details or correcting them?
