| Posted: | | | | What is the possibility of adding a Theatrical Release Date field? There are different theatrical release dates for different countries and cities, but wee could use the most common date for the particular locality, and ignore any New York & Los Angeles pre-releases. TV series could be use the season premiere date. Direct to Video releases would be the date they were released in stores. It would be very hard to determine some of them, so the year would suffice for those.
Like Country of Origin, this field could cause a lot of confusion and debate, but I'd like to see the relative order the movies in my collection were released to theatres (rather than say, sorting all 2005 movies alphebetically under the production year of 2005.) |

Skip How is that...? We are currently using another fielf (Production Year) for the requested purpose. So, having the new field adds trouble...? Bringing the Production Year field back to its original purpose is no trouble at all, as we can use the copyright year in the film's credits. I support the request. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

| Posted: | | | | count me as neutral on this - i can see the benefit for sure... but i can also see the chaos it may cause, i also see the argument that this has nothing to due with the dvd itself... but... does production year? | | | -JoN |

| Posted: | | | | This would be a piece of data relevant to the movie, not the DVD. We don't catalog movies.
also, as already pointed out in this thread's very first post, determining the correct theatrical release date for a movie is going to be difficult and will rely on the approach you take. If you want this field to be international as is the rest of the db, then you're bound for endless arguments, at least regarding the draft of a rules adressing all possibilities for such a field. | | | Lutz |

On the contrary, I catalog movies as well. Why do these have to be mutually exclusive? | | | Hal | | | Last edited: by hal9g |

Why do these have to be mutually exclusive? How 'bout cause the program is called "DVD" Profiler? | | | John

| Posted: | | | | Don't some of you enjoy endless debates? It's what keeps us all together as a family. Theatrical Release Date would provide a finer sort method and a good reference for looking at the history of movies. I think this database can be used in many different ways. It might have the DVD name on it, but it goes beyond that with features like reviews, cast and crew lists and production company info. I doesn't make sense to limit the potential of this great program, unless it threatens the actual integrity of the data. Movie Collector has Theatrical Release Date - I wonder how many wars that causes on their forums? |

Not very many because they don't have an Online that users are building. That program is strictly local, though I haven't looked in awhile, so whatever YOU think the theatrical Release Date might be is only food for you not the rest of their user world.

| Posted: | | | | It's five years later, so time to look at this feature request again. Maybe it's something that could be added to 3.8.2 or 3.9.0? | | | Last edited: by Doombear |
