| Posted: | | | | We have all seen the flood of arguments over how cast & crew credits are entered and much of this is due to the manner in which we are forced to enter them.
Many folks are asking for additional categories such as extended "Art Department" credits (costumes and makeup) and adding "Special Effects" (sound and visual (sometimes makeup)). Neither of these categories are practical additions with the system we are using currently because the job names vary so much from film to film.
I feel that "Open Credits is the way to go. "By "open credits" I mean that we should have fields to fill in rather than radio buttons and check boxes. This would allow us to enter the credits as we see them rather than having to "interpret" what the job titles are.
I also feel that we should completely open the credits. Yes, that would allow all credits to be entered. I do not see this as a problem because, while a few would attempt to enter every credit for a few films, they would get tired of doing so after about the third film. Even if several did this, we would have full credits for only those films.
I am NOT suggesting that we require that all credits be entered at any time. That means, if you feel like only entering a few, go for it but do not remove any credits unless you know the person is not in the film.
So, how do you feel we should move forward?
If you will, please post your vote so we can see who is voting and which way. If you don't want to, don't. I would just like to get an idea who is voting. | | | Dan | | | Last edited: by Dan W |

Would like to see this as an option and spelled out in the rules, if we can get Ken to go this route |

| Posted: | | | | Let's be careful not go overboard on that either way. I think that entering all credited cast is a reasonable request but to go that route on the crew is a bit unreasonable. It's much this way now. | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | All I was saying is I would like to see it spelled out that you don't have to completely update the cast listing if you want to make a change. whatever the "complete" allowable listing is doesn't really matter to me. I personally care about a few people (and most of those not that much ) |

I think it is important to note for all that going to Open Crew should put virtual end much of these discussions, which is a BIG plus in my book. Do I worry about someone deciding to enter EVERYTHING...yes, but I agree with Dan. Let a user tackle just one of the LOTR films and he probably won't do that again. | Posted: | | | | Please keep in mind that leaving the credits the way they are means we will never see an end to these 30 page "debate" threads which get us nowhere.
I'm not suggesting that open credits would get rid of them completely but they would certainly happen less often. | | | Dan |

| Posted: | | | | I'm not against open credits as long as it is understood that it's ok to add any missing credit, but it's not ok to remove any (correct) credit just because you think it has no value. | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

| Posted: | | | | I honestly don't care either way. The only crew I care about are Director, Producer, Writer and...sometimes...Special/Visual Effects.
As it is, I only enter the top billed crew...opening and closing credits, not the actual credit 'crawl'...so, other than a little extra typing, this won't change anything. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. I agree and thought I said that. For clarity, I think spelling this out in the rules is a good idea. | | | Dan |

Almost like having another Credited As issue. Anyway, I expect that will all the additional work involved, not many profiles will be completed. | | | Hans | | | Last edited: by Staid S Barr |
