This may have been asked before, but I couldn't find it.  I hope I can explain this so it make sense.
I have two metal cases for my collection.  Each one holds 720 DVDs.  (I'd post a link to show the case, but  I don't know if it's allowed).  There are plastic sleeves that hang and each one holds two discs.  The sleeves are numbered from the factory 1 to 720.

I use DvdProfiler to keep my collection in order and to find a movie when I want to watch one.  I've printed a simple list and keep it in the case, then refer to it to find a disc that I want to view.

Well I've just fill the first case.  My problem is number 721 is now number 1 in the second case.  Is there a way that I can start a second collection, starting with number 1.  I guess I could just skip the rest of the 700's and manually input the number starting with 801.  Or are we allow to have two DvdProfilers on one PC, this could solve my problem.
If someone has an ideal that would be great.  Thank you

you could
- make a separate database for each box
- our use the disc location field:
-- right clcik in the collection list on a title
-- select view columns: mark disc location
-- from the DVD Profiler menu: DVD: Personalise
-- bottom middle +- you have two fields:
-- location enter here box 1 or box 2
- slot enter here the sleeve number of the dvd

As Giga said, you could use a secondary database

File -> Open Database

There you make a copy of the old one and then you delete in one the contents of the one box and in the other the content of the other box.

Alternatively you can use:

- Tags: Create 2 tags with "Box 1" and "Box 2" and mark each DVD accordingly.
- Collection Number: Why start with 801? I'd start with 1001 and 2001 for each box.
- Location Field (see Giga's post)
- Virtual Box Set: Create 2 manual profiles, called "Box 1" and "Box 2". Then you open the profile, go to "Box Set Contents" and add all the DVDs belonging in that box.
- double usage of the numbers: It is not forbidden to have the Collection Number 1 twice. But I doubt that it would be useful (How to distinguish them?).

I just tested the fields Location and Slot. It first sort on the box and then the numeric slot. If you click on top of the Collection List on the name Disc Location it wil sort your collection to the box and sleeve number:

Box 1: 1
Box 1: 2
Box 1: 3
Box 1: 10
Box 2: 1
Box 2: 3

saving youre fingers: you could use A instead of Box 1 and B instead of Box 2.

I recently went from MovieCollector to DVDProfiler and started doing my lists all over.  In MC it is quite easy joining separate archives - but that is not so with DVDProfiler.  I did make several databases containing 3-500 discs each and thought it would be just as easy to merge them when I was all done.
Any suggestions?

If you want to merge multiple databases, do a backup of each individual database then open the database you want all the titles in.
Go to restore database, tick the "restore specific profiles" option, then click "select all". When you click "ok" it will add all the titles into the current database. Repeat until all the databases are merged.

Thank you for all the different suggestions.  I tried checking off disc location, then dvd>personalize, then entering box# and slot#.  I worked on mostly all of them except there are some that will not let you type text to those boxes.  To the left of location and slot there is a box call disc and usually it will automatically insert something like main feature.  If it doesn't say main feature it will not allow you to type in the location and slot boxes.  One of them was No Country For Old Men.  Is there a work around for this?

I ended up making another database and called it case #2.  This worked out pretty good, though it would be nice to have them all in one database showing the both the actual number and the case and slot numbers.  Oh well if you figure it out please let me know, thanks again.

You can't use the location and slot fields until at least one disc is added to the profile.
Simply edit the profile and go to the disc tab, then click Add Disc - you don't need to add any other info, after you've clicked OK and go back to Personalise, you should be able to access the fields.

Wow, it worked northbloke, thank you.  I already have all the disc entered.  I did what you said.  Highlighted one of the entries that I could not type text to.  Went edit>disc>add disc, and it automatically add the main feature to the entire, then hit OK.  Now I'm able to type in the location and slot boxes.  Thanks for all your help.

Is there any way to allow entry into the Location field when adding new titles by title search?

I find that if I turn on the "personalize" checkbox and then add titles, I can't type in the location field yet -- even if the title entry already contains discs. Once I add to collection, then I can enter the location -- It would be nice to be able to do as I am entering titles -- I am currently moving through entering a very large collection and I find it time consuming to have to go back and re-personalize each entry after I've added them.

Any ideas?

Is this the same behavior with add by disc-id?

I have not used add by disc-id so I can't tell you. But when adding by title, this happens. It doesn't matter if the title has associated discs (in the database) or not. At first I thought it was just due to that but then realized it's for every title.

I don't think it's possible, because the Title is not part of your collection until you actually hit OK and add it to your collection. Once it added then it can have a location. (just guessing)

There must be a Disc ID in the Discs section of the profile before Location or Slot can be filled in.

Just tested this with a profile that has a disc-id, when downloading it.
"...In Black" R1
Disc Id: D554FF3B6317C621 [INFINITI_IN_BLACK]
no access the first time to the location field in personalise.
It seems you should have the profile in to your local database before you can access the location field.
