Hi,

I keep correcting Tiny Lister in my personal database and seem to find new mistakes regarding his career every other day or so. He's a very recognisable character and played the President in 'The Fifth Element' .. Deebo in 'Friday' .. and most recently he was the 'Tattooed Prisoner' in 'The Dark Knight'.

His most common name appears to be -- Tom 'Tiny' Lister Jr.=145/332

He also appears as the following... (if I've missed any - please add them)
"Tiny" Lister, Jr.=9/19
Tiny "Zeus" Lister=3/4
Tiny Lister Jr.=8/15
Tiny Lister, Jr.=1/2
Tiny Lister=26/43
Tom "Tiny" Lister, Jr.=23/52
Tom 'Tiny' Lister, Jr.=8/9
Tommy "Tiny" Lister, Jr.=12/27
Tommy "Tiny" Lister=18/43
Tommy 'Tiny' Lister Jr.=10/15
Tommy 'Tiny' Lister, Jr.=9/11
Tommy Tiny Lister=12/45
Tommy 'Tiny' Lister=24/33

Can I please ask if you have any films featuring him in your collection can you check he is entered under the most common name and maybe double-check his credit is correct.

Many thanks,
Neil

Don't forget:

Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr.=4/14 (note the lack of space after Lister)

This is his Fifth Element credit

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yet again a reason for a central Actors names DB with all listed AKA's

P.S. GreyHulk, I keep running into the same situation, but with several actors names.

Forget cleaning 'Tiny' Lister. You probably will not find him vcredited anywhere but IMDb as 'Tiny' Lister. "Tiny" Lister is the probable credit.

What lack of space after Lister?  There IS a space there.

I went through this in July. Here's a sample of the notes that got my collection cleared up/linked. From "Next Friday":

Tommy "Tiny" Lister (no "Jr.") is the common name. He is credited as Tommy here. I'm changing and submitting all the discs I own with him, so even though this was credited right I still hit the button and see the credited as was off.
This is supported by the credit lookup tool and his offical site: http://www.tommytinylister.com/
Of course the site in places calls him Tiny Lister, but T"T"L seems to be the most common (check the bio page) and I will get all his films linked, at least in my collection.

Hopefully newer profiles haven't changed the CLU results.

I never went so far as to change dvds I don't own, but these got approved in July, and with the offical site and CLU tool, seem to be proper. Before that I had him as 5 different people from 8 dvds.

Your list of aliai misses Tiny "Zeus" Lister, Jr. from Friday.

Agree,
Under biography on his site it says TOMMY "TINY" LISTER
What he calls him self.

I agree, but that isn't the common name on DVDProfiler. The rules state that we must use the common name on here.

Well the rules also says:  Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name.

And who else can say wat the name he has than the actor himself?

Exactly. I would think the official site would override the credit lookup. esp. since the CLU is built on lots of old unchecked entries. If juts a few changed any varying UPC codes then the CLU would catch up and match the official site. I'm certainly not going to cross Tiny's wishes, that dude would kill me and all my friends at the same time!

The credits is what says what the name is .

Why is that so hard for some to understand?

Let's play a game. Pretend the Invelos database has zero profiles in it and you are profiling the very first title...lucky you . What do you do? Do you look at the film's credits and then go to the actor's web site, assuming he/she has one and enter that name as the Actor's name? Of course you don't. You enter the name as it is credited on screen. The next title you profile has the same actor in it but he/she is credited differently than the first title you profiled. What do you do now? Do you go to the Actor's web site, assuming he/she has one, and enter that name as the actor's name? Of course you don't. You should use the CLT to see how that actor is most commonly credited in the database. You see that the actor has 1 title/1 profile as John Doe but in the new title you're profiling he's credited as John E. Doe. Using the CLT you see that John E. Doe has 0 titles/0 profiles in the database. The proper thing to do now would be to enter the credit as John Doe [John E. Doe]. Simple, isn't it? Of course the commonly credited name could change over time as more John E. Doe credits are profiled but this is just something we have to live with with the current system.

And you would be thinking wrong.  Ken already addressed this.  We are not after the person's real name, we are after the most credited form of their name.

Yes lets play then.

If he is credited Tom Leister in your first example and Tommy Leister in the next and Tiny Leister in the text thereafter...  how can you be shure this is the same person if you dont use an Third party database?  Such as the official sites from distrubutor or the actors own ones...

I stand by my posting on this, and 8ballMax the rules arent that clear on this as you like to "understand" it.

Can I play too?

While you can use a 3rd party database to determine that it is the same person, you can NOT use a 3rd party database to determine the common name.  Per Ken's instructions, and the rule, you must use the CLT for that information.

Unicus is exactly right... Ken was very clear when he settled this before. He even stated he wouldn't even take their autograph as proof... as it is the most commonly credited name he is after.
