Disney is putting these out pretty regularly now... separate discs, but same package... it would be nice to distinguish just like we do with hd-dvd / dvd combos...

I think the common practice for these is to add a DVD child to the Blu-ray parent.

I believe I remember seeing a news story where an actual combination BD/DVD disc has been developed.

EDIT: Found it.

Correct.  These are 'Bonus Feature Films' and should be profiled as such.

seems to me that is creating many more profiles then necessary. A simple change to allow both bd and dvd boxes to be checked that the same time would fix this...

I doubt that very much, because the info in fields such as audio tracks, subtitles, features etc. may very well be different for the BD and DVD versions. You would need to use a child profile to be able to profile both in a correct way.

I have one of these sets, and it is sold as a Blu-ray film with a bonus DVD.  Checking both boxes would be incorrect.  This type of situation is exactly what the 'Bonus Feature Film' rule was created for.

I more understood bonus feature film as more for extras... for example an actors side project attached to a big movie... something like that... this is the same exact film on another format... exactly how hd-dvd / dvd combo was... just without disc rot...

If this feature is implemented as requested, it can be laid out in the rules what way to contribute, and then both sides of the debate can do it locally properly...

I am using tags right now for it, but it seems that if this starts taking off the program should adapt to it...

That may be how you understood it but it isn't how the rule reads...

The term "Bonus Feature Film" is used to define any feature film that is included as part of the bonus material for a single release.

Notice that it says 'any feature film', not side projects or anything else.

We already have a way to profile it properly.  One profile for the DVD and one for the Blu-ray.  If you don't want the child profile, why not just add it to the 'Other Features'?

We had a discussion on this the first time this situation occured.  Just out of curiosity, what other Disney films have done this?

FWIW, the HD/DVD combos do generate standalone profiles for just the DVD side.  The DVD side can contain it's own unique extras and unique Audio/Video format info.  I don't use the profiles myself but know they exist.

The official combo profile usually has a combo of the Features from both sides detailed as well as both sides disc IDs, while Audio/Video type info is specific the HD side.

The initial discussion of BD/DVD combo that Unicus references referred to was for Sleeping Beauty which contained a DVD version in separate packaging (disc-sized cardboard envelop) stuck to the outside of the BD case so Disney could quit providing it at anytime, so profiling it as a separate entity makes sense.

If they start including DVDs in the main packaging on their own spindle does that change the thinking?  I don't know.  If all the info is merged into a single profile some info from the DVD (Audio/Video) will be lost.
Bad movie?  You're soaking in it!

That isn't something I have an issue with.  I have the disc space to store a few more profiles locally.  And if Ken had an issue, I'd think he'd speak up about it.  In fact at one point (I believe during the Intervocative/Invelos split) he mentioned that there is lots of disc space for the master database.

So I don't see a problem with creating child profiles.  I prefer them because they allow me to profile things properly.  They also allow me to track when I watch different versions properly.  If you don't want the profiles in your collection, just add them under Other Features as Unicus suggests.

Note that I don't have a problem with the checkbox.  But I wouldn't want to see the child profiles go away.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.

I don't care if the child profile is in the db - but I think we should have the ability to check both br and dvd....

So far just sleeping beauty as mentioned... but in the next few months they have already announced

Pinocchio and Bolt will both have this... in fact... for Bolt they are advertising it as:

Blu-Ray - DVD - Digital Copy - that may wind up in the Edition field when we profile it... and it also is a test for Disney as they are releasing that version a few days before the standard dvd
