| Posted: | | | | So, I realized that a profile I have is the wrong locality, so I went to correct it and have been wondering what the proper credit here is. The DVD in question is The Best of the Johnny Cash Show and I was wondering what the proper credits for the musicians that are the guests in the featured segments.
Here are the possibilities as I see them, using Bob Dylan as example:
1. Bob Dylan - Himself 2. Bob Dylan - Vocals, Guitar 3. Bob Dylan - Himself (uncredited) 4. Bob Dylan - Vocals, Guitar (uncredited)
I give the uncredited as an option because none of the guest musicians are credited in the DVD credits and the actual show credits are not included. However, all of them are credited on the package and are introduced by name in the segments, but I was uncertain if this counts as an actual 'credit' by Profiler standards since rules state to take cast from film credits only and the actual credits are not included (only credits are for the DVD compilation).
Anyway, what's the consensus for how I should contribute this? | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

| Posted: | | | | Since they are not credited anywhere on the DVD itself, I went with option #3. I don't think we need to go into detail...vocals, guitar, etc. 'Himself' should be enough. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. Are they just announced audiobly, or are the names written on the screen? I think if the names are written, then that counts as a credit even if it's in the middle of the movie and not with the actual open or end credits. I'd give an "himself" as role if this is the case. If just someone saying "welcome to the satge" or whatever, then the uncredited sounds right. | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

I expect they did have a credit in the original show credits, but as I said, this is a 'best of' DVD set and the original show credits aren't included. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

Information is knowledge. Out of curiosity, why treat Dylan differently than other musicians? I'm just using him as the example here. My preference is to treat all of the musicians the same. If it's because Dylan is famous and potentially others are not, the rest of them are all well known (Loretta Lynn, Louis Armstrong, Waylon Jennings, George Jones, Tammy Wynette, The Statler Brothers, etc.). The only ones that are not well known are the members of The Tennessee Three (Cash's house band) and I had intended to credit them either as The Tennessee Three (rather than himself) or The Tennessee Three: Guitar (if instrument credit was desired) and then credited or uncredited as the voting went. | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

| Posted: | | | | If not credited in the video itself but only on the cover the credit is of course "uncredited" but the documentation is easy. For uncredited, you can choose whatever role name would match. Therefore both alternatives #3 and #4 are valid. |

| Posted: | | | | Thank you everyone (those who voted and those who posted too)! I've gone with the overwhelming consensus of #3 for the cast credits. I've also credited the groups by person who was involved, thereby not crediting "Derek and The Dominos as Themselves (uncredited)" but instead "Eric Clapton as Derek and The Dominos (uncredited)" etc. since that seemed the most logical thing to me (and allowed me to breakup Bill Monroe and His Bluegrass Boys, which wouldn't all fit in the first name field).
I also think those may be the longest contribution notes I may ever write. Phew. ^_^ | | | If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world. -- Thorin Oakenshield |

| Posted: | | | | I'd go with option 4, because if I'm not mistaken, this is a live performance, and not a movie. So if I was interrested what he did on this DVD, "himself" would not explain much to me. If it said "vocals/guitar" I'd know he was singing. SO for someone that likes his music, it's probably important to know if he sings or if he's just hosting the show. | | | Last edited: by Gemini76 |
