To keep it seperate from this discussion

Let's assume the DVD title of the first season of TV Show "JAG" will become something like "J*A*G: Judge Advocate General: The Complete First Season".

But on screen we see "JAG":

In every other country but the US the answer would be simple but now I have to ask: What's the original title?

Edith says there is an "r" too many: "no" not "nor" in the third vote option.

I got that set (half of it, because they splitted the complete first season in two seperate sets )

I use the second option, but no idea why though
Unfortunately, I can't use DVDprofiler at the moment due to lack of a Windows computer.

I don't want to interfere with the vote, but want to ask one more thing.

If this poll results in a "JAG" as OT, what happens in cases where there's no other spelling of the title on screen?

Would you contribute something like this in an US profile:

T: "Chuck: The Complete First Season"
OT: "Chuck"

If there is no title in the credits, I would leave the OT field blank.

But there usually is - at least the opening credits from where we usually get the OT.

I must have misunderstood your question then.

I think what DJ meant: what do you put in OT if there is no differently spelled title in the credits.

The light bulb just went off...sorry.

If the title on the DVD cover is "Chuck: The Complete First Season" and the title in the credits is just ""Chuck" I would put 'Chuck' in the OT field.

Have you ever had an US season profile where someone did this?

Not a single US season I own has such an OT, they simply have "nothing" in it.

Quite correct, they are all blank but, you asked a specific question...I was just trying to answer it.  If I were to enter an OT, that is how I would do it.  I didn't mean to imply that they are actually being done that way.

Problem with option "JAG" is: if you own multiple seasons, they will all get the same Original Title. Surely since the programme has the functionality of showing you an OT Title List, this can not be intended. So the rules need to be amended to allow for season/series indicators in the OT.

No, IMO we need either a program change to add a season field or a rule change to put the season specifier into the edition field. But the season specifier of the set in the locality which happens to be the country of origin has nothing to do with the season sets of any other locality. What would happen if there was no season set released at all in the country of origin?

As far as I can tell the problem would be solved if it had been agreed to place season indicators in the Edition field (as they are displayed separately anyway).
I wasn't around then, does anyone know why it was decided to add them to the Title instead?

I wasn't around but I recall there being quite a limitation on the characters in the Edition field which may have been able to cope with "The Complete First Season" but would have had big trouble with "The Complete First Season: Limited Special Edition"

Also it would simplify (in many cases) the need to have a different 'Sort' field (by default the same as the Title field) because The Shield: Season 1, The Shield: Season 2 etc would sort itself.

FWIW even though the program has the capability to sort by OT (did it always have this BTW?) I think the original title should be just that, as per the Rules, JAG, and if you want to have your collection sorted by OT and get over the problem then, in the (comparatively) rare cases where it's a problem then copy the OT (ammended for your purposes if necessary) into the Sort Title field and sort by (shock) Sort Title...
Even if we did go with adding a Season Indetifier in the OT Fourth Season would still be before Second and Third so the order would still be wrong so why even contemplate it?

FWIW2 I could really do without another program change that would add a new field thus necessitating changes to thousands of profiles and months of 'mass title voting' when the present system works for nigh on everyone and nigh on every profile and has done for years. Sure, in an ideal world it would have been introduced early in development but it wasn't and I personally think the change would cause a lot of effort to fix an absolutely tiny problem.
It is dangerous to be right in matters where established men are wrong
