I've seen this done well on other forums, so I thought I'd give it a go here.

What am I proposing?

You put together a list of your personal top 25 movies of all time, and post it in this thread. Your top 25 will essentially be the 25 films you want nominated for our community list. Next weekend (Nov 7 & 8) I'll put together a list that represents the top 25 films of the users that participated. So the more that participate, the better the results.

To sweeten the deal a little, I'll be doing a random draw from all the participants and send one lucky winner a free DVD. It'll be a DVD of my choosing, but taken from my own top 25 list, and I'll make sure to check your collection so I don't send you something you already have. I'll also give a green arrow to everyone who posts a list. It may take me a little while to give them all out, since I only get five a day, but just be patient and you'll get yours.

NOTE #1: Only one movie per slot. No movie series or trilogies and no "ties" where two different movies both share the number one spot. One slot, one movie.

NOTE #2: For non-English language movies, please include at least the English title (if applicable) - feel free to include the original title too if you want. This will make sure the movies get the correct number of points, in case two people nominate the same movie but one uses the original title and one uses the English title.

Note #3: I'm looking for your personal top 25. The movies that for you are the best 25 movies ever made, without considering the movie's impact on film history or how well executed it was in terms of art or style. Just simply your own personal top 25. Your 25 deserted island movies, if you will.

When I tally the results I'll be awarding points based in reverse order of the list. Meaning:

Your #1 movie will get 25 points.
Your #2 movie will get 24 points.
....
Your #24 movie will get 2 points.
Your #25 movie will get 1 point.

And when I make the list, the movie with the most points will get the #1 spot, and the second most the #2 spot and so on.

Okay? I hope we get lots of participants. I'll post my own a little later.

KM

Ah. Didn't know that. Still, since some time has passed it could be fun to try again. Plus, it doesn't look like the results where ever tallied.

So, here's my list. I may make changes before the tallying, but this is it for now.

The Dirty Dozen (1967)
Die Hard (1988)
Fight Club (1999)

The Matrix (1999)
Rocky (1976)
Serenity (2005)
The Kingdom (2007)
A Few Good Men (1992)
The Breakfast Club (1985)

Lesson learnt from last time (I think Astrakan's list looks safe): Include the year (to know which version in case of remakes/movies with same title) and/or director (because sometimes two movies have the same or similar titles in the same year).
Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!)

So, here's my list.

I've not had time to do my own list.  Not sure if I'll have time or not.  But I surprised at how many movies on your list would make it on mine!  I'll have to check some of those I'm not familiar with.

Okay, silly question - but I didn't ask it last time and ended up with a list that would have been different depending on the answer - so - Which top 25?  Do you mean my personal "these are the best films I've ever seen" or my personal "these are my favorite enjoyable films" list?
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.
