| Posted: | | | | Life as I know it is over. I know this to be a fact. I sat down tonight to watch a DVD, Life as a House (5017239191428). Cat got comfortable on her cushion, lighting was correctly set up for the ambience of the room, everything worked as normal... except the TV didn’t come on (Samsung LE55B651T). 30 minutes of fiddling with cables and plugs followed, but failed to wake it up. (Actually I’m surprised at the relatively low level of expletives that were uttered, given the extreme circumstances.) It’s only 14 months old too and was itself a replacement for an LG that was only a year old when it broke down. I now face a bleak future, one that consists of wondering the shelves of my DVD collection for eternity, reading the sleeves covering the cases, but never enjoying the fruits of their loins. The irony is that someone in Hollywood will surely be making a pitch to a studio even as I write, to make a film about my tragic experience, but one I will be destined never to watch (not on DVD anyway). I appreciate that no one will be able to help me, but it helps to share the loss. Does anyone know the name of a cheap counseller or therapist? Paul | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

Humm, not a bad idea. There's just one tiny little issue with that idea, (well probably about 2,000 of them actually). I don't think I'd have room for 60" inches either. My place is pretty small and I’ve custom built everything around the Samsung. No, I'm afraid a life in mono black and white on a 12" screen is (metaphorically) all I have to look forward to now... | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Doesn't this fall into the warranted period? (in Germany 24 months) I'd call the Samsung customer service and ask for help. Anyhow: usually it's only the integrated PSU (Power Supply Unit) that fails, repair costs should be below € 300,- | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | Well... After a nearly sleepless night, interrupted by terrible nightmares in which all my DVD’s simultaneously suffered from disc-rot, aliens landed (and start killing everyone as they always do) and supernatural beings emerged out of a ‘hell hole’ and started fighting the aliens (and of course, us humans got stuck in the middle but with no suitably uplifting Hollywood ending written into the story), and a cybernetic being from the future came back in time to kill the leader of the humans too, who himself was in fact an actor who became a politician, who used to be an actor who played a cybernetic being from the future who came back in time to originally kill humans, but then turned out to be a superhero but with a flawed public image so no one supported him anyway, as everyone was too busy dealing with their own dysfunctional lives, I rang Samsung this morning to enquire about the warranty. I had to sent it some proof of purchase stuff, so maybe, just maybe... | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". | Posted: | | | | Hope you have better timing than me. My last TV died and when I called Samsung, I was 6 days too late. I hate Murphy and his laws!
The good news for you here, it was 6 days after 2 years! | | | Last edited: by bigdaddyhorse |

| Posted: | | | | Considering the fact that the day after tomorrow is Judgement day you probably don't need a TV anyway! On a more serious note though, it's never good if a product dies on you. My PS3 died once and i had no more warranty so my sympathies! Paul |

| Posted: | | | | Since it's Judgement Day on Saturday, buy the largest & most expensive 3D TV you can find (and 3D player) on Friday and put it on credit.
If Judgement Day doesn't happen, return it on Sunday due to buyers remorse. |

| Posted: | | | | My PS3 also died almost 3 years ago and it cost me the flat rate of $156 to get it fixed. Not to mention the time factor. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | Thank you all for your kind thoughts in this, my time of need. The coincidence of the date is truly chilling. And no reply from Samsung yet... But perhaps I will be saved by the two year rule; (assuming any of us are still here)? If Judgement Day doesn't happen, return it on Sunday due to buyers remorse. The expression "buyers remorse". I’ve not heard that before. Is that American for what the British call the “cooling off period”, when you regret buying something and want to return it or cancel it? Actually I have a bit of a confession to make. I have just this moment remembered I do have a ceiling mounted projector, which I'd totally forgotten about as I haven't used it for over two years as the TV gave a much better picture. It's not a high definition one (but one of those is on my shopping list for the day I win the jackpot in the national lottery), but it means I can still watch DVDs on a big screen. I hope it still works... News to follow.... | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". | Posted: | | | | At about 7:30 on Friday evening, a nice man from Samsung rang and said they were arranging for an engineer (I guess that means a TV repairman in 'old money') to ring me to sort out coming to fix my TV. I think this is good news! Hopefully this means I won’t now need to live in poverty for the next five years. I have to say I’ve quite enjoyed using the projector again. It’s actually better than I remember it being. Quite a different viewing experience to the telly. It took me about half an hour to get it working though, mainly because I’d forgotten how I’d set it up and spent ages trying to get it to talk to the DVD player, when in fact I’d set it up to work from the Blu-ray player instead. Many expletives were to be heard, echoing about the building... | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". | Posted: | | | | Well, like all good, feel-good movies, this story has a happy ending. Firstly, Judgement Day failed to go as expected. Then two nice people were send round by Samsung, they identified the problem, ordered a new part and then came back just two days later and fitted it. All for free too. Result! Life suddenly seems more colourful and positive now.. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water".
