| Posted: | | | | I’ve just voted no to two contributions by someone. That’s the first time I think I’ve done that and now I feel really bad, even though I’m certain I’m correct. What was everyone else's ‘first time’ like? Paul * That’s bad in a negative way, rather than in a triumphant bullying, or "for the greater good" kind of way. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it? Guttermouth "Lemon Water". Also, I include in my Profiler database VHS tapes, audio DVDs, audio books (digital, cassette and CD), video games (digital, DVD and CD) and 'enhanced' CDs with video tracks on them, as well as films and TV I've bought digitally. So I'm an anarchist, deal with it. Just be thankful I don't include most of my records and CDs etc in it too; don't think I haven't been tempted... |

| Posted: | | | | I never considered my "No"-votes to be personal, only data-related. If the data is incorrect there is no need for a bad conscience when voting "No".
Hans has a very valid point though. Since the "Reason"-field often is too short for a complex reasoning a PM might help. | | | It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up! But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

| Posted: | | | | I quite never vote no, because I find it extremely annoying to stone other users' work who generally make their best to improve the online database. As I do not want to vote "no", I also do not vote "yes". And voting "yes" is also voting sometimes for wrong data, which I do not want to do, since rules in some cases prefer wrong data to real data.
I think I voted "no" less than 15 times in three years, each time when the contributor evidently did not own the DVD and corrected good information to replace it by bad one (my no votes being of course "per the rules"). | | | Images from movies |

| Posted: | | | | I personally like it when someone votes no to mine so I can fix it. If I vote no, I always leave a note as to why and try to keep it civil, constructive and to the point. | | | Marty - Registered July 10, 2004, User since 2002. |

| Posted: | | | | Voting correctly - where YES or NO - simply shows pride in the online database.
If the data is wrong then it's up to us to keep it out of the online database; so don't feel bad.
Personally, I want our database to the best it can possibly be (within the constraints of the rules) and that is what I am striving for with every contribution I make....so, if I make a mistake, I want someone to vote NO. Even better, bring it to my attention even quicker by dropping me a PM. |

| Posted: | | | | I fully share Pantheon's thoughts about this. And, of course, using Hans' suggestion to send a friendly PM you can't go wrong. |

| Posted: | | | | I think that my first time was with Kathy ( ) I do recall feeling guilty about one of my first 'NO' votes because the person had entered a lot of data, and I was voting this way because of only one detail among all of it. I sent a PM apologizing, hoping the person wouldn't get frustrated that my vote exposed something that a dozen other voters had already missed. He reacted in kind, like most, understanding the nature of the system that i had only just begun to explore as one of the new guys. Since then, for almost every negative vote that I give, I immediately send the person a message letting them know that I had an why (sometimes just to expand becuase the explanation boxes aren't always large enough.) The reason for this, though, is so that the person knows right away about the vote (in the case of not checking votes daily) so that (s)he can resubmit ASAP instead of waiting several days only to have it rejected for a reason given early on. | | | If at first you don't succeed, skydiving isn't for you.
He who MUST get the last word in on a pointless, endless argument doesn't win. It makes him the bigger jerk. |

| Posted: | | | | I just did it again. Notes stated that studios and MC had been updated but it wasn't in the contribution. Instead there was a really bad cover scan in the contrib.
I just write this here because I read this topic right before voting.
I don't feel bad about no votes because I try to be very reasonable and think that if I vote no my argument is trong enough.
It's nothing personal against the contributor. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

But the problem is not about the feelings of the users who votes "no", but the feelings of the contributors who worked hard and were hurt by a "no" vote. In past three years, how many posts have we seen from contributors disgusted by the refusal of hours of work? I think the database lost more with people who stop contributing, than by votes that ignored a small mistake that was easy to correct just after. | | | Images from movies | | | Last edited: by surfeur51 |

| Posted: | | | | I don't remember my first time. Or the many that have come since. For me it's not a personal thing. Someone went to the effort to gather the data and contribute. I have no problem letting them know that they've missed something. I would certainly want to know in that situation so I could fix things.
On the other hand, I don't get nasty or anything. Just a simple reason explaining the No or an "I agree with the others" in the event that it's obvious from previous voters. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

I think the database lost more with people who stop contributing, than by votes that ignored a small mistake that was easy to correct just after. I think this is very true. It's a real shame that we can't vote no to individual parts of contributions in a way that would allow the rest to be accepted. I wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to set up a system that allowed a no voter to tick which part(s) of a contribution he/she wasn't happy with, which would allow the rest to be accepted. They're already split into sections (Cast, Crew, Features, Studios, etc) anyway. | | | Do you ever find yourself striving for perfection with an almost worthless attempt at it?
