I have a quick question for fellow DVD profiler users regarding Walt Disney classic animation films. While some of the newer films (e.g. Beauty and the Beast) give production credit to Walt Disney Pictures, some of the older films (e.g. Cinderella) give production credit to Walt Disney Productions. With the research I've done, it looks like Walt Disney Pictures was formally called Walt Disney Productions. So, for an older film like Cinderella, should I give credit to Walt Disney Productions (as originally they were responsible for production), or update this to say Walt Disney Pictures? Thanks!

if Walt Disney Productions is what is in the credits, then that is what we use.

and I still say we should give credit to Walt Disney himself for being the Uncredited Producer of these films ..

Since his name appears in every studio credit, I think we already do. If Walt himself had wanted an individual producer credit in the film, I'm sure he had the means to get one.

Agreed.  The rules make no mention of updating studio names, to the current version, so it should be entered as credited.  JMHO.

Sorry for the kick.

I've just watched Brave where only the word Disney is named in the opening credits (also on the backcover) in stead of Walt Disney Pictures.

There's a list of accepted studionames where Disney is Unacceptable but since only Disney is named should I add Disney as studio or is it still Walt Disney Pictures?

Here's the list I used.

If they are credited as Disney, that's what we enter.

Kind of a sad day if they have axed Walt from the studio name. But I guess they are only about the money now.

You use what is actually credited. The days is historically very important. Ha enter seen Brave so I can't address what may or may not be the credit, beyond this wdshe will be the media company pro ably with bvhe. Walt was never credited with any producer credit in my memory and w cannot record ANY uncredited crew as spelled out in the rules.

The rules say:

Quote:
Do not abbreviate Studio or Media Company names. e.g, use Universal Pictures not just Universal; The Criterion Collection rather than Criterion or Criterion Collection; Walt Disney Pictures not just Disney.

It depends on the credit Martian and Tim, you both know that. Universal can be a legitimate studio credit and its not an abbreviation when it is legitimate. I have not yet personally seen a Disney credit...but I haven't seen Brave, so I can't say other than is it possible....yes.

Disney only communicates with Disney and not Walt Disney Pictures anymore. As far as I can see Walt Disney Pictures isn't used anywhere on the disc.  I've added a screenshot.

If they have officially changed the studio name it's no longer an abbreviation but a legitimate credit.

It's interesting.  If you go to this page  you'll see "The Walt Disney Studios", where among others is listed the "Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures".  If you click on that link it has under the heading of "Properties" the single name of "Disney".  So I don't know exactly what to think about this.

Scott

Only time will tell. It may prove go be something they are playing with, or maybe ap ply it to certain films. Ed has done this kind of thing more times than I can count over the yeras. All we can do is deal with the data, whatever it is, and go from there.
