Hi,

Does anyone know if DVDP for Apple devices is going to be effected by the introduction by Apple of iOS5?  Additionally, will we be be able to make use of 'The Cloud' and some of the other new features that are to become available?

Cheers,

Wal

Hello,

What I can say is that DVD Profiler works well (with the usage I do) with iOS on my iPad 2 and on my iPhone 4. For the use of iCloud technology I can only say that the actual version doesn't take advantage of iCloud. We will have to wait a new version of DVD Profiler or maybe Ken doesn't want use it, but Ken is the only one person that can answer.

I am an ios5 tester and have been using their iCloud for my backups since the iCloud became available.  There is an option under Settings | iCloud | Storage & Backup | Manage Storage which allows you to specify which application data is backed up to the Cloud.  DVD Profiler is listed and will automatically be backed up nightly if you so choose.  I actually turned off this feature since my main data resides on my laptop.  If I ever lose my iPhone/iPad data, I can just resync from the laptop.  If DVDP ever let's me break the dependency on the laptop and run strictly from my ios devices, then I will start using the cloud to back things up.  Hope this answers your question.

Thanks jstrollo.  I guess we'll all find out on 12 Oct when iOS 5 hits the ground running.

It would be nice to hear Ken's thought on the subject, how about it Ken, any comments?

I am using it right now while on iOS5 GM which is the pre release version before it comes out tomorrow. Not a single issue.

I can confirm coverflow somehow broken in iOS5: Seems the covers flip in "horizontally mirrored". So when you sweep from left to right the cover in the middle shows the animation as if you had swept from right to left.

That causes a jumpy look of which I hope will get fixed really soon as the cool clean style of the app suffers much.

There seems to be an issue with a fresh install on a new iOS5. It is unable to connect to the pc, while it works without any problems on an upgraded version.

Eg: after the iOS4 update on my iPhone, the app still works.
I bought a new iPad, upgraded it to iOS5 and installed the app, and I am unable to make a connection to the database.

That strange because as I have installed all the beta, I need to do an installation from scratch when the iOS 5 GM version was released last week to developers and I don't have any problem to connect to the database. But maybe as I did a restore, it's not the same behavior than do a new installation.

I have an issue on my iPad with IOS5. It crashes all the time when I search a boxset. Then when I type on the arrow to open it to see the childs it often, but not always crashes and I have to start the app new and it will at the same place crash again. On the iPhone 4 the same does work without crashing. Seems to me, that it does not work as stable on the iPad 2 with IOS5 as it has done with 4. Any ideas?

Just got through updating my iPod Touch 4g with iOS5 and DVD Profiler iOS is working just fine. Connected to my PC database and updated, Box Sets working fine, coverflow works fine. So far no problems what-so-ever.

Hi,

I'm having problems! Running a brand-new iPhone 3GS (32gb) with iOS5 freshly installed on it today at local Apple Store (a replacment, as my previous 3GS was "bricked" during an iOS5 update install 72 hours previously  ), and trying to get it connected to my PC, it's only connecting intermittently. Sometimes it connects, and then it'll drop the connection part-way through updating the database on the phone. Not a problem with my Wi-Fi, as that's all running smoothly. Definitely a prob with iOS5. (That doesn't surprise me, though.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to add on to this, that it is even worse on the faster iPhone 4S then it is on the iPhone 4 that both Cougar and I reported on... the increased speed has now further increased the speed of this animation... it's basically unusable at this point for coverflow...

Try looking at your firewall and see if your new phone has permissions set properly.  Best advice I can give is go to the homepage of your firewall software and search on iOS 5.  Most including AVG have quite extensive advice and solved my similar problems in just a couple of minutes; it was just a matter of setting some custom filters.
