I just purchased DVD Profiler for Android at a fair price at the Google Play store. Thanks Ken for that.

I have issues when downloading my collection. This seems to take hours (I have a 60 Mbit internet connection). I have currently 6.410 profiles to download. After 1 hour the progressbar shows about 20%. After this the profile download stopped and the app crashed.
I'll try it again this evening - hopefully it works on a 2nd try

Device: Samsung Galaxy S2 running Android 4.1.2

I resign after 5 attempts of downloading my entire collection. The app crashes reproducible after downloading about 1.000 profiles. During the import the light of my device does not turn off. If I turn off the light manually the import stops.
Ken, please take my purchase fee as a donation to develop a reliable application what is able to import bigger collections without any issues. I will try it again if a better version is available!

During the sync phase the app prevents the device from sleeping (hence the light) otherwise the sync is cancelled if the device sleeps.  Per Ken's past statements this is as designed.

I've been able to download over 2500 profiles but it takes 1-2 hours to complete the initial sync.  When the sync stops can you not restart were it left off?  If not, try downloading your collection and right before it gets to the point where it normally crashes try hitting cancel.  Then restart the sync and it should start where it left off.  Yes, that will be a pain but may be a workaround until the issue you're experiencing is fixed.

Thanks for your hints!

The problem is, that I cannot see the percentage of the import progress. The progress bar is totally inaccurate. My problem is, that after one hour of import the device sends a message "DVD Profiler Stopped Running" (translated from German)

I'm running in parallel the Collectorz Movie mobile version. This tool works much more reliable concerning synchronizing: First it generates an export file from the original  desktop application. After this it sends this file to the mobile device (e.g. via Wi-Fi.) Once the mobile device has received the file it starts to unpack this file and installs it. This takes about 30 minutes and not 6 hours!

I think DVD Pro tries to download and install the profiles on the fly - and that may be the problem.
But well, I'm not a developer but just a consumer and fact is that I have severe issues with the mobile application...

Thorsten,

Are you syncing from your PC or from the online collection?

I updated my collection from the PC and transferred ~3000 profiles in under an hour.

Another question would be is whether he is syncing via WiFi or through his phone service.

For clarification my collection of ~ 2500 titles took upwards of 2 hours through DPO and over an hour through PC.  I haven't tried it through my phone provider's network.

I synched from my online collection. The synch from my PC (windows 8) did not work!
To be honest currently I don't have the time for testing this aplication furthermore, even if I paid for this...

Wasn't this released just yesterday?  Give him a bit of time to work out the bugs.

We're aware of and are working on these issues. I can tell you this particular issue is not due to the size of the collection - we had beta testers with larger collections, and we have a monster in-house database of 30,000 that we run through everything.  That one takes a while.

Very happy to see there is a android app now and I have the same problem.  I know Ken and the gang will work these problems out asap.  Thank you for the update Ken.

Thanks for response. After 12 hours I'm currently at 4.200 profiles exluding pictures. I hope, I'll be finished at the end of the day!

I've been waiting so log for this app, so I can wait a little bit more for bugfixes and performance enhancements!

My Nexus 4 is noticeably faster then my Nexus 7. For them I rate the speed as kind of slow, could be faster, but ok for a one time event. (2500 collection size)

It's clear from looking at task manager that network or my PC is not the bottle neck.
There seems to be a lot of processing happening on the android device. I'm guessing that the people seeing very slow downloads are using lower powered devices?

I wonder if the processing could be shifted to the PC and have it send data already "android ready" to reduce the work required by the android device.
Tom.

FWIW: I have now changed the download source for my collection from internet to the pc collection. This procedure works much faster and stable. On my SGS2 the complete collection was downloaded after about 4 hours. On my tablet (Samsung GT-P3110) the download procedure seems to take much longer (still in progress since 4,5 hours).

I forgot to measure the time first time, so I deleted the database and downloaded it again from DVD Profiler for PC, via WLAN (b/g, not n or even ac).

2000 profiles, 10:55 minutes for reading the database and copying the profiles, another 11:16 for the images (Front and Back Images "On" and "Huge"), in total 22:11.

I assume the download duration is linear, twice as many profiles, twice the time.

An update some days later lasts only seconds.
Don't confuse while the film is playing with when the film is played. [Ken Cole, DVD Profiler Architect]

I think maybe the time needed depend where you store the data. I think if you store them on external SD card it will take more time than if you store them directly in the storage of the phone/tablet. Don't have done tests but I think external card will slow down the copy process.

One thing to try to speed up the initial database sync.

Use a program like wifi analyzer to check the wireless connection. If possible move the router to a different (less used) channel then move your tablet/phone to get the strongest signal (better signal is faster data transfer).
