On this day, 30 years ago, the US Supreme Court ruled, 5-4, that home video recording doesn't violate copyright laws.

anyone remember the pricing structure of the first beta/vhs tapes .? I remember being intrigued to know that an entire movie and sound was in my hand .. it was astonishing at the time ..

My very first video tape I bought was .............Blazing Saddles  big cardboard flip box with the tape snuggled tight inside the plastic shell on right side..  Mono / full screen  and my big zenith 26 in TV  displayed the video signal as  'flagging to the right'  when played back..thru channel 3 ( or 4 if desired)  Price ?  $100.00  but if I brought it back to the video/audio store ( there were hardly any rental stores to none  in my Vancouver BC area at that time  (1981) ..)  I would get a $95 credit (not cash back  but credit)  towards my next purchase ..
Purchase number 2 Had to a title that I would never be under the gun to bring back within 14 days ..    Title for number 2 ?  2001 A Space Odyssey .. again.. Mono  and 1:33  for this masterpiece ...  ( now don;t get me going on how many repeat titles I have bought over the years to get just the right one into my library ...
In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. Now the World is weird and People take Prozac to make it Normal.
