I have been watching the German bluray of the TV show Eureka. Twice when I have just started an episode I got music (and possibly effects) but no dialog. But there is no separate music track. There are only English, French and German audio tracks. I ejected and reloaded the disc, and then everything is back to normal.

So how the frack is it possible that I heard only music?

Could it be some downmixing going wrong? I have experienced it before, mostly with Multichannel PCM soundtracks, where the player/receiver sends the channels to the wrong outputs.

I have also tried (years ago) that a 5.1 soundtrack were downmixed wrong, so the stereo output had no dialog (ie. the center channel was ignored insted of being mixed to the stereo channels).

Like your problem, ejecting and reloading solved it...

Interesting theory, Rander.

It shouldn't be a case of downmixing since it's a 5.1 track and a 5.1 system. But ... if either the player or the amplifier misinterprets it as stereo, then I guess this could be the result.

If it happens again I'll check what the amp thinks it is.

Thanks!
